The 2018 Tennessee Cove Lake Mine Rescue Competition to Cove Lake State Park began yesterday and will run through Thursday.    Mine rescue contests help prepare teams of specially trained first responders to operate effectively in a real mine emergency.

Tuesday’s competition was focused on first aid.

The mine rescue competitions gauge the readiness of teams and their individual members – sharpening skills and testing their knowledge in a series of simulated emergency scenarios, such as a mine fire, explosion or roof collapse. Scenarios will be set up on the grounds of Cove Lake State Park. Teams have traveled as far as New Mexico to compete in this week’s competition. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 06/06/2018-6AM)
