The Jacksboro Eagles are poised to play for another state championship.  Along the way to next week’s big game, the Eagles Will ‘The Thrill’ Lester became the newest member of the 1,000 Yard Club at Jacksboro Middle School.

Entering Thursday night’s game against the Red Devils of Horace Maynard, Lester only needed 146 yards to reach that milestone and went on to accumulate 157 yards en route to the Eagles 16-8 playoff win.  Lester scored the first touchdown on a 28-yard run, and he also caught the pass for the extra points.

Will (L) is along side his dad, Assistant Coach Brent Lester.  Dad was not only very happy with the win but the fact his son has now joined him in that exclusive club.

Last night’s game was for Conner.

After the game, JMS Head Coach Brent Peel told his team, “No one thought we could do it and also told the team this one was for Conner.”  JMS student Conner Lane passed away earlier this week after a lengthy illness.

It’s on to the 3-A championship game for undefeated Jacksboro.  That’s Saturday, October 27, at L. Hope Dossett against the same team the Eagles defeated last season for the state crown; the Cherokee Yellow Jackets of Kingston.  A win gives JMS back-to-back state championships.
