At the request of 8th District Attorney General Jared Effler, TBI Special Agents are conducting a death investigation at a residence located along S Hwy 25 in La Follette.  This morning, deputies with the Campbell County SWAT team were at the residence executing a search warrant. Preliminary information indicates that when the team made entry, James Robert Combs, Jr. (DOB 1/11/73) ran to the back of the residence.

As the team approached Combs, he fired a shot them. No deputies were struck. The team retreated and began attempting to negotiate with Combs at which point a second shot was heard inside the home. After receiving no response from the subject, deputies re-entered the residence and found Combs deceased. His body will be sent for an autopsy.
