Last Friday afternoon, Grant Richard Hevner alleged he was in the Ivydell area to go shoot guns with his friend, according to a report from the LaFollette Police Department. But, LPD Officer Danielle Gilbert wasn’t buying it.

Around 5 pm, Gilbert was on patrol when she saw two vehicles parked at the beginning of one of the trails behind the church. As she approached the vehicle, Gilbert noticed it appeared that one of the cars was attempting to leave, the report said. However, the vehicle appeared to be placed in park, a man got out of the vehicle and walked toward Gilbert’s vehicle. When asked by Gilbert, what he was doing there he allegedly said the two men had come to shoot guns.

Hevner had a strong smell of marijuana on him, the report said. When asked if he had been smoking, Hevner allegedly admitted he had been. Gilbert asked where the marijuana was, and he said it was in the center console. Upon checking Gilbert found a bag with a green leafy substance inside the console. At this time, a passenger in the vehicle was asked to get out. After getting the substance out of the vehicle, Gilbert asked if there was anything else illegal in the vehicle. Hevner said there was some marijuana in a bag if the officer could find it. Gilbert was able to find a black backpack with one large gallon size baggie that was half full with what was believed to be marijuana. A one-quart jar with baggies and one-pint sized jar with baggies that were believed to be marijuana.  The contents of both jars were individually packaged. Also, found in the bag was a .357 revolver, and two Smirnoff Ice flavored beers were located inside the vehicle. Hevner and his passenger, who was under the age of 21, had both allegedly been drinking the beers. Scales, smoking pipes, and a variety of weapons that were all loaded and chambered were found in the vehicle, the report said.

Inside the driver’s door was a baseball bat that was partially concealed. Hevner said that he was homeless and was living inside the van.
