On what would have been Tom Stiner’s 81st birthday, the Campbell County Airport will be honorably renamed Colonel Tommy C. Stiner Airfield today.

Lansden Hill and others in the local flying community came up with the idea of renaming the airport for Stiner as his health began failing a few years ago.  Hill hopes that there will be a good crowd for this very special man.

Campbell County Mayor, and veteran, E.L. Morton will speak along with Hill and Stiner’s son, Mark, also a veteran.  Campbell County native Colonel Melvin Clawson, pinned by Tom Stiner, will also speak.

The ceremony, open to the public, is Monday at 2 pm with a reception to follow.  It will be held under a heated tent inside the hanger, and deputies with the sheriff’s department will be assisting attendees with parking and guiding them to the hanger.

Stiner, who died August 16, 2017, at his Campbell County home, was a La Follette native, war hero and highly successful and effective mayor of Campbell County.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 01/21/2019-6AM – CHARLIE HUTSON PHOTO)
