Hillcrest Baptist Church member Lana Douglas is beginning a grief support group tonight.

GriefShare, a Christ centered, Biblically based support group is one Douglas has been through and wants to share with others.

The group offered her not just strength, after losing her husband of 40 years, it let her know everything she was feeling was normal.

“It gave me comfort, hope and answers to a lot of questions,” she said.

At the time, the native Campbell Countian was living in South Carolina. Now, she is back home and ready to share with others what she learned in GriefShare.

“It has been a burden on my heart (to start a group),” she said.

Beginning  tonight (Thursday, Feb. 7) at 6:30 pm at Hillcrest Baptist Church, Douglas will begin a GriefShare group.

Each week for 13 weeks, participants will watch a DVD, complete homework and have group time to assist them in coping with their losses. Douglas stressed this group wasn’t just for people who have lost spouses but is for anyone who has lost a loved one. The loss doesn’t have to be recent either; the person just has to be struggling with it.

Cost for the materials is $20 and there is no fee to attend. Scholarships can be provided for those who can’t pay the materials fees.

“We want to make this as accessible as possible,” Douglas said noting that many people who have lost a spouse, have lost an income.
