Later today, former codes enforcement officer Daniel Smith will learn where the La Follette City Council plans to place him.     According to one city official, he will either return to the police department, where there is an opening, or to the recreation department where there is also an opening.

Smith didn’t pass his certification test within the allotted time, as required by the state to serve as the codes officer and was replaced last month.  The council voted to move Daniel Foster from the police department into the codes position effective Feb. 16.  Foster had been filling in while Smith was on leave.

The regular monthly meeting is scheduled for this afternoon at 5:30 pm at LaFollette City Hall.  The meeting is to be preceded by two public hearings.

Final readings are on the agenda for Ordinance 2019-01 and Ordinance 2019-02.  Ordinance 01 is abandoning a portion of unopened street located within West Kentucky Ave.  That area is located between the former Cardin home on West Hemlock St. and the former Woodson home on South Tennessee Ave.  Ordinance 02 is amending the personnel policy definition safety-sensitive position.  This is an addition to the current drug policy that was adopted about a year ago.

WLAF’s coverage of the meeting will be available here in the morning.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 03/05/2019-6AM)
