Firefighters continue battling a brush fire at this hour.    Campbell County Rural Fire Service Assistant Chief Daniel Lawson tells WLAF that a brush fire that began just before 5 pm on Saturday is about 75% contained here a little more than three hours later.  Crews from the CCRFS, La Follette and Caryville Fire Departments along with the Forestry Service are on the scene close to Demory Road and Chaniott’s Grocery.

Firefighters are currently protecting three homes.  Around 25-acres have burned.  No injuries have been reported.

Today’s high winds have added to the firefighters’ challenges.  It’s also blown smoke and ash far from the area of the fire.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 03/30/2019-8:30PM – PHOTO COURTESY OF CFD FIRE CHIEF EDDIE HATMAKER)
