Hundreds of people will gather in the mountains of Campbell County this weekend to take part in a nationally award winning event; the Pine Mountain Longbeards National Wild Turkey Federation Campbell County Chapter’s Utlimate Turkey Hunt.  It’s where wounded warriors, disabled hunters, youth hunters, guides and many more take part in this most special event.   It’s hosted on the farms of Terry Lewis and Ron Cunningham on Hickory Creek Lane off Stinking Creek Road. The Longbeards team with the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Tennessee Wildlife Federation, Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency and the Campbell Outdoor Recreation Association (CORA).

Jessica Cain is a committee member of the Pine Mountain Longbeards and said, “The kick off to the event starts this afternoon at 5 pm with a meet and greet and fish fry where the community is welcome to come for food and fellowship. The first hunt of the weekend is Saturday morning at 5 am.”  It’s a day of fun and fellowship where you can always find a smile, a kind word and a helping hand.

This is the 15th annual Ultimate Turkey Hunt, and it has been widely recognized over the years for its hunt.  Awards include the NWTF “Best Partnership Award” for its 2017 Wheelin’ Sportman Wounded Warrior Turkey Hunt. In 2016, it garnered the “R3 National Award” from NWTF of the Hunting Heritage Awards for its 2016 Wheelin’ Sportsman Wounded Warrior Turkey Hunt.  It also won “Best Partner Event” in the nation for its 2015 Wheelin’ Sportsman Wounded Warrior Turkey Hunt by the National Wild Turkey Federation. In 2014, the Longbeards came away with the “Best Hunting Heritage” award in the entire nation and “Best Special Event” in the entire nation for 2013. Cain said, “It is quite an honor for the hunts to be recognized as the “Best of the Best.”  Earning the five awards put the Pine Mountain Longbeards in the NWTF “Hall of Fame.”

It’s estimated that 300 people will take part in this weekend’s event.  Weather promises to be friendly.

Directions to the event begin with taking the Stinking Creek Exit (#144) off I-75 and traveling 14.4 miles east on Stinking Creek Road.  Then turn right onto Rock Creek Road, go one mile to the fork and take the right fork ¼ mile, right across the bridge onto Hickory Creek Lane and proceed one mile on left to 599 Hickory Creek Lane.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 04/26/2019-6AM)
