LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Appearing on WLAF last night, Campbell County Mayor EL Morton attempted to assure the community he wouldn’t be advocating for a tax increase.

While the budget and finance committee recommended last week to set the Certified Tax Rate (CTR) at $2.25, it neglected to mention that would be 19-cents above the CTR set by the board of equalization for the 2019 tax year. The board of equalization’s recommendation was $2.0695. The budget and finance committee’s recommendation will go to the full county commission in July. It should be noted both boards are made up of the same people.

“We can’t take 19 cents without a purpose,” Morton said. He said that currently there wasn’t any reason to “advocate for anything over the CTR.”

The lower CTR of $2.0695 is “good news,” the mayor said. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 06/25/2019-6AM)
