JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – Austin Ayers is facing child abuse charges following a July incident.

The 27-year-old allegedly slapped a 6-year-old boy when the child asked his food to be cooked in a different manner, the report said.

Ayers, an uncle to the child, was making chicken nuggets for the boy when the child asked him to use the microwave instead of the oven, the report said. This made Ayers angry who then allegedly slapped the child on the left side of the face. When police arrived, a witness verified the details of the assault. She is also the one who made Ayers leave the home, the report said.

Ayers was picked up days later at the Dollar General Store in Jacksboro. He is facing one count of aggravated child abuse, endangerment and neglect.
