LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – A man recently came home from the grocery store and was assaulted.

Last Friday, Aug. 16, Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to a home in LaFollette about an alleged assault, where the perpetrator had ran off into the woods.  When deputies arrived at the home on Brandt Hill Drive, a man who was later identified as Joshua C. Madsen, came out of the residence. Deputy Charles Courtney asked him what was going on, and he became belligerent and was yelling. Courtney then asked what his name was and he allegedly said “I don’t have to tell you my name.” Police told him  if he was refusing to tell him his name, then he would be detained until he could be identified.

At this point, Courtney asked again what was going on and Madsen said  the victim had swung at him and he had swung back. When Courtney tried to ask why they were fighting, he continued to yell and cuss at him, according to a report from the sheriff’s department.

Madsen was detained so Courtney could speak with the victim at a different location. While Courtney was putting Madsen into the patrol car he said “If I go to jail for this I’m kicking the windows out (of the car).”

When Courtney made contact with the victim, he noticed a small cut on the victim’s top lip. The victim told Courtney  he had just gotten home from the store when Madsen came running at him and hit him in the face. He then allegedly tried to tackle him. The victim told Courtney he had his hands full of grocery bags when Madsen came at him. Courtney noticed several bags of grocery lying on the ground.

While enroute to the jail, Madsen said “You will be hearing from my friends. I have friends in high places.” Madsen continued the rant stating that he would get pictures of Courtney and Cpl. Allen and post them on Facebook and neither of them would like what he posted.
