LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputy Anthony Mahar noticed a silver Dodge Ram run a stop sign on Nov. 10 at West Central Avenue and Jacksboro Pike. He then saw the truck stop in the middle of Jacksboro Pike blocking both lanes of traffic.   When Mahar attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver turned into to Sonic Drive In and went over the curb on the entrance and into the grass. He then tried to pull into a parking spot and went over another curb, hitting a bush in the grass, the arrest report said.

When Mahar spoke with driver, he noticed a strong odor of alcohol coming from the truck. The driver allegedly told Mahar he had had seven beers. Mahar asked the driver of the vehicle to step out, and he was unable to keep to his balance and his speech was slurred, according to a report from the sheriff’s department.

The driver was asked to perform a field sobriety test, but the driver refused. Mahar then asked him to turn around and place his hands behind his back.  That’s when, according to the report, the driver grabbed Mahar by the arm and said, “he wasn’t going to f****** jail.”  At this point, Mahar got the driver turned around and was able to handcuff him after having to fight to get his hand loose from the driver’s grip.

An inventory of the truck revealed empty beer cans in the front seat and an empty bottle of liquor in the bed.

The driver identified as Marc Eric Brantley, 41, 209 Hilldale Lane, LaFollette is charged with driving under the influence (DUI), violation implied consent law, assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, drivers to exercise due care, reckless driving and traffic control device.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 11/20/2019-6AM)
