LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – “My dishes rattled,” said one caller to WLAF from near where the USGS (United States Geological Survey) determined a 3.6 magnitude (updated at 3.8) earthquake hit at 2:12 pm on Monday  afternoon. The epicenter of the earthquake was recorded 1.2 miles (updated .62 miles) North Northwest (updated East) of Fincastle with a depth of 19.7 miles (updated 21.99).

Two earthquakes hit before daybreak near the same area on Sunday morning.  The first was a 2.0 magnitude, and the second was a 2.8.

“I thought a truck had hit my house, and then the house shook,” a caller from South Tennessee Avenue in La Follette said.

WLAF received close to a 100 phone calls within the few minutes following the quake’s shake. Other reports indicate that homes in the west Knoxville area felt the quake. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED 01/20/2020-3PM-UPDATED 4:30PM)
