LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – An early morning hit and run in LaFollette led to the arrest of a Caryville man on multiple charges.

According to LaFollette Police Sgt. Noah Riggs, the hit and run was reported around 6:20 a.m. when individuals driving a stolen Ford F150 crashed into a parked flat bed truck at South Indiana Avenue and East Chestnut Street. Officers learned from witnesses that after the hit and run occurred, two males were seen in an altercation on the street.
Afterwards, one male and a female “took off on foot” east bound on Chestnut Street, while the other male ran south on Indiana Avenue. Officers obtained clothing descriptions for all three suspects and shortly afterwards found a male matching one of the descriptions on Fourth Street. After making contact with the suspect, officers learned he had a warrant out for his arrest for violation of probation.
At that time Jeremy Ballard, of Caryville, was arrested and charged with violation of probation, as well as second offense driving on a suspended license, violation of the financial responsibility law, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, theft of a license plate, theft over $1,000 for an automobile, violation of due care, and possession of drug paraphernalia. According to jail records, Ballard had been out of jail for less than a month. He had previously been arrested on multiple drug charges on Jan. 2 and released on Jan. 25.
The other two suspects who fled the scene of the hit and run are still under investigation, according to police.
The Campbell County Sheriff’s Department assisted with the arrest because the vehicle that was wrecked in the hit and run had been stolen out of the county.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 02/19/2020-NOON)
