JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – The first case of the Coronavirus has been diagnosed today.  All,
At approximately 6:30pm tonight, Friday March 13, 2020, The Campbell County Health Department advised my office that a person has been diagnosed with the COVID-19 Corona virus in Campbell County, TN.

This patient was tested by qualified medical professionals and is remaining in their home. The Tennessee and Campbell County Health Departments are monitoring this patient and have declared that this patient has not communicated the virus to any other person. The public need take no special action beyond good personal hygiene and cleanliness.

As always, continue frequent soap and water hand washing, use hand sanitizer, stay home if you are sick, cover your cough and sneezes and disinfect surfaces that are touched frequently.

Refer to the Tennessee Health Department and CDC websites for guidance on simple measures to take at home, at work, in church or travelling to reduce the risk of obtaining or spreading germs in this or any other situation.

Spring weather is here in East Tennessee so be sure to enjoy it while you implement a few small measures that help reduce risk for everyone.

The Campbell County Emergency Management Agency and Mayor’s Office will continue to advise the public of any factors that may require further actions.

Mayor E.L. Morton

  1. Okay my question is are the parents going to go to jail if they don’t send their kids to school cause I have a medical fragile child at home and can’t take no chances.

  2. I’m concerned about the assertion that the person who tested positive has not communicated the virus to anyone else. Since incubation before symptoms is 5-14 days, has this person had no human contact for 14 days before a positive virus test? Assurances that are not accurate are dangerous.

    1. We said the same thing. Has he/she not been to a store? Not checked his mail and left his germs on the mailbox? Gone to a gas station? Has he not handed cash to anyone? Had a visitor? Gone to church? Gone to a bank? If none of those things… How the heck did he get it? That’s terrifying that he just caught it w/o interaction.
