This big rig car hauler caught fire just before midnight on Wednesday night on I-75.

CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF) – It was a long night/morning for First Responders working a truck fire on I-75 between the two Caryville exits. The fire shutdown all southbound lanes for more than two-hours.

The call came in to 911 Central Dispatch at 11:50pm Wednesday night dispatching multiple agencies to the scene on the southbound side of I-75 at Mile Marker 140. That’s a mile south of the Huntsville-Oneida Exit.

Six cars sustained a wide range of damage.

An 18-wheeler car hauler caught fire prompting response from the fire departments of Caryville, Jacksboro and La Follette. Caryville Police along with the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office responded as did the Campbell County Emergency Management Agency. The Tennessee Highway Patrol and Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) also worked the accident.

Firefighters were on the scene for more than three-hours.

One lane of I-75 south was opened by 2am with fire units clearing the scene at 3am. Reeds Wrecker Service cleared what was left of the truck fire.

A week rarely passes when there is not at least one wreck or mishap through the construction zone on I-75 between the two Caryville Exits.
