LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Aylah McCullah’s family continues hurting this morning over her weekend disappearance. She’s been gone now for more than 48 hours as the search continues.

Commission approves grant; appointments to Equalization Board

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – The Campbell County Commission approved multiple agenda items on Monday including the acceptance of a Homeland Security grant, along with several contract agreements and appointments to the County Board of Equalization.

Proclamations held for Jellico Basketball teams 

Commissioners recognized Jellico Elementary School Boys’ Basketball team on Monday, declaring April 15th as Jellico Elementary Five Time Champion Day!

Nearly two dozen people killed in work zone crashes

Move over, slow down during National Work Zone Awareness Week April 15-19

NASHVILLE, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF) – The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is joining states across the nation to ask motorists to Work with Us – move over and slow down for highway workers. TDOT will spread that message statewide during National Work Zone Awareness Week, April 15-19, to improve safety in Tennessee’s interstate and highway construction and maintenance work zones. This year’s theme is Work zones are temporary, your actions behind the wheel can last forever. We welcome the media to use TDOT’s PSA online or on air to help us share the message.

Caryville Cares Playground to open in late April

CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF) – The Town of Caryville Board of Mayor and Aldermen met for the monthly meeting on Monday evening. Ordinance No: 2024-04 amending the zoning map of the Town of Caryville Tennessee by changing the zoning for property on Woods Circle from R-1 Low Density Residential to commercial had a first reading.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – If you’re out and about today and Wednesday and you happen to see the Lafollette Fire Department ladder truck and other fire trucks at Russell Tower, don’t panic. Odds are it’s part of a firefighter training course.

“It’s a full eight-hour training session each day,” said La Follette Fire Chief Jimmy Pack.

‘Make it a Grand Week’- Olivia Lobertini with The Grand on Central

 “I want to show good things here, not negatives,” John Ward of the Appalachian Channel said

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – LaFollette resident John Ward went from repairing iPhones to YouTube internet fame in just a little more than two years. He spends his days traveling all across the South East Appalachian region making videos highlighting everything from general stores from a by-gone era to mountain folk making sorghum and apple butter. 

Ward said he tries to use his videos to show “the good sides of Appalachia” with various hidden gem locations such as old general stores, drug stores and more. In some ways, his Appalachian Channel on YouTube and Facebook has turned into a “traveling destination” channel.
