La Follette Firefighter Brad Young attacks a Wednesday morning fire on Hill Street, just off South Avenue.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – The call of a passerby around 4:30 this morning quite likely may have saved a home and lives. “A passerby reports the back of a home is on fire in the 100 block of Hill Street,” said a La Follette 911 Dispatcher.

CCHS Beta Club makes donation to Smoky Mountain Service Dogs

JACSKBORO, TN (WLAF) – The Campbell County High School Beta Club made a check presentation to Smoky Mountain Service Dogs on Tuesday for more than $3,000 as its most recent service project. The funds will be used to purchase a puppy that will be trained and given to a veteran.

Smoky Mountain Service Dogs is a nonprofit organization run solely by volunteers. It serves wounded veterans by providing them with “custom trained, mobility assistance service dogs” at no cost to the veteran.

Largest CTE Fair held at CCHS; more than 55 vendors present

 JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – Campbell County High School students had the opportunity to meet firsthand with more than 55 career representatives at Tuesday’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) Fair which was held in the high school gym from 8 am till noon. More Career opportunities in law enforcement and military also had booths set up outside on school grounds. 

TOP PHOTO: More than 55 vendors had career booths set up at Tuesday’s Career Fair at CCHS. Students from seniors on down to Freshman got to visit with employers and secondary education representatives to talk about what “comes after high school.”

Work is underway on Cove Lake bridges; traffic slowdowns ahead

A TDOT construction project that began last week runs through at least July

This work is on the south Cove Lake bridge, nearest I-75, on the Jacksboro side of the bridge.

CARYVILLE, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF) – Crews with Jones Brothers Contractors are repairing the bridges that span Cove Lake on Hwy 25W (State Route 9) and Hwy 63. The repairs are both underneath, from a barge, and on top of the bridges on the decks. The first step is the underneath repairs followed by deck repairs. The deck repairs, the second step, are what will actually affect us, and it will force lane closures with traffic down to one lane in each direction.
