Mrs. Evelyn June Myers McCullah, age 93 of LaFollette, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, February 26, 2011.  She had been a Christian for over 60 years, and attended Word of Life Church.  She was preceded in death by husband, Millard McCullah; daughter, Lorene Courtright; parents, Monroe and Anniebelle Wright Myers; brothers, Henry Myers, Orlando Myers, John Myers, Edd Myers, and Charles Myers; sisters, Stacy Yoakum, Cloeva Proffit, and Jessie Prater.

 

She is survived by daughters, Irene Hopkins of DeKalb, IL and Dean Nuchols of LaFollette; 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; sister, Blanche Brantley of LaFollette; special nieces, Jeannie Prater and Ruth Roach.  Several other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

 

Funeral Services Thursday 10 A.M. at Walters Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Anthony Gibson officiating.  Interment to follow at Bakers Forge Cemetery .  The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Billy Curtis Reynolds, age 67, of the Beech Grove Community in Lake City, passed away Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center North.  Billy was born November 17,1943 in Anderson County, Tn. to the late Buster and Nellie Mae Isabell Reynolds.  He was a member of the Westside Baptist Church.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting ginseng, and sitting on the front porch. In addition to his parents, Billy is preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Ruth Braden, Ruby Daugherty, Helen Reynolds, and Norma Jean Duncan.

Linda Sue Byrge, age 65, of Clinton, passed away Friday, February 25, 2011 at her home. Linda was born September 22, 1945 in Clearwater, Florida to the late Wesley Joseph and Icey Bell Wright Stewart.   She was a member of the Mountain View Baptist Church.  She enjoyed playing with her computer,  quilting, gardening, fishing, and spending time with family and friends.  In addition to her parents, Linda is preceded in death by her husband Early Byrge, son, Wayne Roscoe Byrge, brother, Bobby Evans, sister, Beatrice Elmore, and son in law Brownlow Cook.

Elmer “Dump” Fifer, age 65 of Briceville, passed away Sunday, February 27, 2011 at the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. He was born on October 9, 1945 in Harlan Kentucky to the late Leonard and Winnie Gray Fifer. Elmer loved gardening, walking in the mountains, and spending time with friends. In addition to his parents, Elmer is preceded in death by his sister Annie Smith.

Clay Stephen Teague, 67 of Lafollette, TN passed away at home surrounded by family on February 19, 2011. He was a loving husband, son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend. Clay played football and graduated from Jellico High School in 1961. Clay was an Army veteran, serving in Korea during the Vietnam War. For five years, he was a member of the Brookeville (OH) Fire and Rescue Squad. Clay was a 32nd degree mason and had just received his 40 year pin of honor. He worked in the coal business for 29 years and was a supporter of the coal industry. He was a big sports fan and loved watching football and baseball. Clay was a great storyteller and enjoyed telling and pulling jokes on friends. His favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing, grilling and visiting on the front porch with friends and family.

Clay is survived by his Mother: Geneva Teague Brookville, OH. His loving Wife: Linda Teague of Lafollette. Daughters and Sons-In-Laws: Brenda and Jeff Chapman Greer, South Carolina, Melissa and Rob DeLeeuw of Strawberry Plains, TN and Anita and Carter Ruff of Bath, Maine. Grandchildren: Dustin Sutton and Zoe and Calla Ruff. Sister and Brother-In-Law: Elaine and George Doat Philipsburg, OH. Brothers and Sister-In-Law: Wayne and Sandy Teague of Memphis and Gary and Lori Teague of Anchorage, Ala and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews  and many good friends.

 

Masonic Service will be 7:45 PM Tuesday, February 22, 2011 with funeral service to follow with Rev. Arlie Muse and Rev. Junior Dople officiating. Interment will be 11 AM Wednesday, February 23, 2011 in Woodlawn Cemetery with the Campbell County Honor Guard in charge of graveside services. Ruby McNew Lawson passed away at the age of 88  on Saturday February 19, 2011 at her home in Mt. Paran.  She was a charter member of Bethel Baptist Church for over 25 years and very strong in her faith. 

Preceded in death by:  Her Beloved Husband of over 40 years, Raymond Harrison Lawson.  Parents: Wesley and Mertie McCreary McNew.  Sister: Eda Eldridge.

Mr. L. C. Baird age 78, of LaFollette , TN passed away Saturday, February, 19, 2011, at U.T. Medical Center in Knoxville .  He was a member of Coolidge First Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army.  L. C. loved people, especially meeting his friends in the mornings at Hardees.  He was preceded in death by parents, George and Clara Baird, brothers, J. N., Barney, and Frank, sisters, Juanita, Mary Lou, Alice and Lettie.

Lawrence Miles, age 79 of the Oak Grove Community in Lake City, passed away Saturday, February 19, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center of Campbell County. He was born April 10, 1931 in Anderson County to the late Frank and Fannie Alford Miles. Lawrence was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed farming, traveling, taking his dogs for a ride, and spending time with family and friends.

Jamie Elaine Harbin brightened our lives with a ray of sunshine on February 6, 1989.  She was born to parents Jacqueline Leavitt Harbin and Larry Dean Harbin.  Her short time on this Earth ended on Wednesday morning February 16, 2011.  She was preceded in death by her mother, Jacqueline Elaine, and special uncle, J.B. Taylor.

 

She is survived by her sister, Devonna Harbin, of LaFollette, Special Friend, Charles King, of LaFollette, and Dad, Larry Harbin, that lives in Lenoir City .  She leaves Three Cousins, Jaleesa Ellison, and Chris and Kevin Leavitt.  These five grand-children of Joie Leavitt have shared a very close relationship throughout the years.  Also survived by Grandmother and guardian, Joie Leavitt, Aunt and Uncle, Janet and Terry Ellison, and Uncle James Leavitt, all of LaFollette. Aunt Leslie Leavitt, of Georgia, and Grandpa Jim of Jacksboro.  Also survived by Jamie’s great-grandmother, Idessa Powell of Jacksboro, Great Aunt, Laura Taylor, Great Aunts and Uncles, Trena and Ed Smiddy, of Jacksboro, Rita and Paul Patterson, of Caryville, Lois and Ponnie Ridenour, of LaFollette, and Ana Mae and Frank  Arnspiger, of Colorado.  She was certainly our Sunshine, and will always live in our hearts.

Charlie Lee Nelson age 93 of Jacksboro went home to be with the Lord Monday, Feb 14, 2011 at St. Mary's Medical Center of Campbell Co. Charlie enjoyed gardening, farming, and enjoyed his family very much. His family was his life, espcially his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Charlie was the oldest member of the Cumberland View Baptist Church. As well as a proud veteran of WWII having served in the US Navy.

Preceded in death by: father, Calvin Henry Nelson. Mother, Nora Isley Nelson. Daughter, Barbara Miller, four brothers and one sister.

Survived by wife, Lillian. Sons, Joe Nelson and wife Judy, David Nelson and wife Lena. Daughter, Betty Parker all of Jacksboro.

Martha Geraldine Craig, age 95 of Lake City, passed away Monday, February 14, 2011 at Summit View of Lake City. She was born October 5, 1915 in Kentucky. Geraldine was a member of the Fratersville Baptist Church and enjoyed reading, sewing, and spending time with family and friends. Murrel Thomas Albright, age 59,of Andersonville, went to be with God on Sunday, February 13, 2011.  He was born October 3, 1951 in Anderson County, TN to the late Charles Edward and Johnnie Queener Albright.  He was the kindest, most considerate man who was put on this earth to help others.  He never thought of himself.  He was a man’s man who loved the outdoors.  Murrel was also an avid hunter and baseball man who will be sorely missed.  He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, John Albright.

Dale Guider, age 50, of N. Ft. Myers, Fla. Passed away Wednesday morning, February 9, 2011.  He was born in Quantico, Va. and was the son James and Shirley Guider.  A graduate of Ft. Myers High School.  He was an employee of McCrory’s before they closed and was currently employed by the News-Press in the production department.  He was a big sports fans, especially the Tennessee Vols.  Preceded in death by father, James Guider; grandparents, Carl & Effie Ledford, Dorothy Rose, David & Jo Guider.

Mr. Ottis Lee Day age 81, of LaFollette passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2011, at U.T. Medical Center in Knoxville .  He was retired from the Campbell County School System as a Custodian at East LaFollette Elementary School .  Preceded in death by wife, Trula Day, parents, Leroy and Cora Hatmaker Day, brothers, Elgie Day and Elmer Day, sisters, Roxie Bean, Rosie Ford, Novella Shepherd, and Retha Nelson, special nephews, Earl Wade King and Roy Ballard.

Mrs. Daisy D. Daniels, age 86 of LaFollette passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at St. Mary’s Medical Center of Campbell County.  She was of the Pentecostal Church of God Faith.  Along with her husband, she owned and operated Loop Road Body Shop, and Daniels Trailer Court .  Preceded in death by husband of 66 years, Luther T. Daniels in November 2009, sisters, Pansy Chapman and Francis Pack, brother, Frank Hance, and son-in-law, Elzo Walden.

Freddie Joe Reynolds, age 74, of Columbus, Ga., formerly of LaFollette, passed away Sunday, February 6, 2011.  Mr. Reynolds was born April 16, 1936 in Lenarue, KY, son of the late Nellie Hollins Reynolds and William I. Reynolds.  He was a Controller for The Mead Corporation for 35 years, a former board member of the Easter Seals and a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.  Preceded in death by his son, Michael Reynolds; sister, Dorothy Carter; brothers, Hayden, Willie, & Leon Taylor and Ed Reynolds.

Lillie M. Martin
, age 81, of Lake City passed away on Monday, February 7, 2011 at the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Lillie was born on July 1, 1929 in Anderson County to the late Harlen and Sadie Sparks.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Briceville. Lillie was the loving wife of Lonas Martin for 34 years.. She worked at Y-12 in Oak Ridge when she was young.  Lillie graduated after three years in nursing and worked 36 years in Tennessee, Baltimore and Indiana.  She is preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Charles Cleo Leinart, sisters, Dora Evelyn Sparks and Mary Helen Daugherty, brothers, Jesse Lewis Sparks and John Franklin Sparks and Great Grandson, Adian Michael Kerr.

Mr. Joe Monroe Carden, Jr., 87, a life long resident of LaFollette, Tennessee,  passed away in Johnson City, Tennessee at the home of his daughter Monday February 7, 2011.

 

He was born October 24, 1923 in Knoxville , Tennessee to Joe Monroe Carden and Elizabeth Summitt Carden.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brother Sam Carden.

 

Joe is survived by his wife Wanda Heatherly Carden of LaFollette, his daughter Karen Carden Green and her husband Richard (Dick) Green of Johnson City, Tennessee.  He is also survived by grandsons Joseph C. Green, wife Julie, their children Lucy, Katie and Heidi of Nashville, Tennessee and David M. Green, wife Ashley and their daughter Claire of Brentwood, Tennessee

 

He is survived by brother Robert (Bob) Carden and wife Ellis of Richmond, Kentucky and sister Janice C. Morse Williams and husband Mac of Newport News, Virginia as well as six nieces and one nephew.

 

Mr. Carden was a Veteran of World War ll, serving in the European theater.

 

He attended Center College in Danville , Kentucky and University of Tennessee , Knoxville .

 

He was a Chrysler dealer in LaFollette in the early 1950s.  Joe was a former postmaster, Director of the LaFollette Housing Authority, Urban Renewal Director, and former City Councilman for LaFollette.

 

He was a life long member of First Baptist Church , having served as a deacon, treasurer and moderator for more than 30 years.  Joe was involved in starting the first couples' class at First Baptist Church .

 

He was an avid golfer and had many wonderful friends.  He loved children and helping those who were less fortunate.

                

He leaves a legacy of honor, integrity, and love for his family and friends.

 

The burial service will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery on Thursday, February 10, 2011, at 1:30 p.m. for family and close friends.  Pallbearers and Honorary Pallbearers will be Dick Green, Jody Green , David Green , Ben Rogers, Bill Wilson, Joe Mosier, and Deacons of First Baptist Church.

 

A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church on Thursday, February 10, 2011, at 2:30 p.m. Dr. Bob Brown will officiate.

 

A receiving of friends will immediately follow the service.

John Paul Rutherford, age 23 of Lafollette went to be with our Lord and Savior  Saturday, February 5, 2011 at the St. Mary’s Medical Center of Campbell County. He enjoyed being a great father. John Paul enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed the outdoors, computers, gaming, and many other activities.

(Buck) Lyons age 66 of LaFollette passed away Friday, February 4, 2011, at St. Mary’s Medical Center of Campbell County.  He was of the Church of God Faith , formerly employed in the nursing/medical care field, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Grover Sanders, age 84, of Eastpointe, Michigan, passed away on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at St. John’s Hospital in Detroit. He was born May 29, 1926 in Heiskell, Tn. to the late Henry M. and Almeda Foust Sanders. He was a member and Deacon at Beaconsfield Baptist Church in Eastpointe. Grover was a U.S. Air Force Veteran and was also a retiree of American Bakeries. In addition to his parents, Grover is preceded in death by his wife: Pauline Shelton Sanders.

Elliott, Christy Ross, age 92 of Clinton, Tennessee, formerly of Lake City, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at Mercy Hospice in Halls.  He was born in Oneida on March 23, 1918 to the late Ross E. Elliott and Myrtle Sexton Elliott.  He is also preceded in death by his sister, Lillian Elliott Watts.

Christy was an avid golfer, fisherman and a great lover of the outdoors.  His most happy times were spent enjoying his family and friends.  Everyone who knew him could feel his love for life and was a little happier for having known him.

He leaves behind his loving wife and best friend for 71 years, Juanita Leach Elliott.

He is also survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Ken Shrull of Lake City and son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Hazel Elliott of Lake City.

Grandchildren: Clark and Jody Wormsley, of Knoxville, Krista and Jeff Little, of Clinton, Leigh Anne and Chris Maye of Jacksonville, Alabama and Crissy Jill and John Wilson, of Lake City.  His Great-Grandchildren, Jordan and Parker Wormsley of Knoxville, Logan and Garrett Little of Clinton and Cooper and Rileigh Maye of Jacksonville, Alabama.  He also leaves behind his sister, Jean D. Elliott of Knoxville, Tennessee.

Christy was a member of the Lake City Lions Club for over 50 years, having served as secretary for at least 30 years.  He was also a member of the Coal Creek Masonic Lodge # 492 F&AM for over 50 years and Order of Eastern Star, Coal Creek Chapter # 226.

Christy was a faithful member and Deacon-Emeritus of the Clear Branch Baptist Church in Lake City and loved attending services when his health permitted.

A very special group of people in Christy’s life were his extended family at the Meadow View Senior Living Community in Clinton.  The loving care provided to him will never be forgotten by his family.  He loved each and every one of “his girls” as he called them, and they returned his love each and every day.

The family will receive friends at the Hatmaker Funeral Home in Lake City on Thursday, February 3, 2011 from 6:00-7:45 p.m. A Masonic Service will be held at 7:45 p.m. with funeral service to follow with Reverend Randy Norton officiating.

Carl Edward (Muncie) Hawkins, age 89, of the Beech Grove Community in Lake City, TN, passed away on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge, TN. Muncie was born on September 24, 1921 in Anderson County to the late Jess and Lillian Galbreath Hawkins.  Muncie was a member of the Willowbrook Baptist Church and was an army veteran who served in WWII.  He enjoyed gardening, and spending time with family and friends.  Muncie worked for the State Highway Department for 20 years until his retirement.  In addition to his parents, Muncie is preceded in death by: his first wife, Alma Jean Wilson Hawkins, his second wife, Vivian Gross Hawkins, son, Kenny Lee Hawkins, daughter, Linda Hawkins, brother, Fred Hawkins, and sister, Mary Tackett.

Callie E. Hicks, age 84 of Norris, formerly of Lake City, passed away Thursday, January 27, 2011 at St. Mary’s Medical Center of Knoxville, TN. She was born July 13, 1926 in Campbell County, Tn.  to the late Rev. P.T. and Darles Loving Lindsay. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Norris.  Callie was a loving mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother who attended many area churches to visit her host of friends and family.  She was a woman of great faith and loved to serve others.  Callie could be seen driving her yellow pickup truck and belonged to the “Loose Ladies” of Norris.  She tutored young children, was a tremendous cook, seamstress, and quilter.  She will be sadly missed but we know she is with our Lord and will be there to receive us in heaven. Callie is preceded in death by: husband David J. Hicks, brothers: Fred and William (Dink) Lindsay, grandson Joshua Lindsay Bailey, and son-in-law Jay Chambers.

Mr. Larry E. Jarrett age 40 of LaFollette passed away Thursday, January 27, 2011, at U.T. Medical Center in Knoxville .  He was fireman with the LaFollette Fire Dept. and also employed by the State of Tennessee Forestry Dept. in Campbell County .  He was a member of the Golden Gloves Boxing Gym, holder of two world titles, member of a bowling league in Harrogate , and coached Little League.  Preceded in death by father, Jim Jarrett in December 2009, and grandmother, Reba Phillips in March 2010.

Sherry Lynn Cook Sabo Age 59, died January 23, 2011, at Summit View Nursing Home, Lake City, TN, following a long, courageous battle with Pick’s Disease.  Born in Athens, TN, in 1951. Preceded in death by parents Robert Erwin and Barbara Small Cook, Athens, and grandparents Henry Lynn and Viola Small, Athens, and Margaret and John Cook, Loudon, TN.  Special appreciation goes to the staff of Summit View Nursing Home and Elm Croft Alzheimer’s Residence for loving care. Sherry received her BA in History with Honors from The University of Tennessee in 1977.   She served as a legislative assistant in Washington, DC, for Congressman John Duncan, Jr.; as a consultant for the American Petroleum Institute, Washington, DC, and Sun Oil Company, Dallas, Texas; and served as the Corporate Communications Manager for Rust Engineering, Birmingham, AL.  She also worked as a seasonal Park Ranger at the Carl Sandburg National Historic Site, Flat Rock, NC, where she developed and helped care for the Sandburg goats. She was a member of St. John in the Wilderness Episcopal Church in Flat Rock, NC where she served as Junior Warden.

Survived by husband Eugene Sabo of Hendersonville, NC;  sister Cynthiana Cook Spangler, Knoxville; nieces Rachael Lynn Spangler, Raleigh, NC;  Amanda Detweiler of Navarre OH; and Laurel Derrick also of Navarre, OH; brother-in-law C. Zion Methodist Church the last part of her life. She enjoyed quilting, taking care of the sick, loved working in her yard, and raising flowers.

John Gordon Beach Jr., 70 of Heiskell, TN went to live with the lord on

Mr. Beach grew up in Lake City, TN and in 1965 he joined the Army’s Intelligent Division where he served in the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea. After leaving the service in 1967 he moved to Heiskell, TN. He enjoyed farming, working on old cars and spending time with his grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his mother Victoria Massengill Beach and father John Gordon Beach Sr; both of Lake City, TN., and brother William Laskey of Cleveland OH.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years Viola Faye Malone Beach, son Michael Beach and wife Billie, daughter Melinda Watson and husband Richard, loving grandchildren Katie and Maranda Beach, Arianah Frost and James Wells. Sam Carroll age 85 of Lafollette passed away Monday, January 24, 2011 at the St. Mary’s Medical Center in Campbell Co. He was a member of Cedar Hill Baptist Church. He retired from Lafollette Utilities after 31 years and was a 50 year member of the Campbell Co. Masonic Lodge 778 F&AM, member of the grand lodge the free and accepted masons of TN. He was raised a master mason 3/26/55, a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a Shriner of Knoxville. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, the lakes, outdoors, yard work, and most of all his garden. He loved to be with his grandchildren and family. He was a veteran of World War II having received several ribbons including EAME service metals with 2 bronze service stars, American theatre service metal, good conduct metal, and World War II victory metal.

Marlow, Raymond age 82 of Jacksboro passed away Friday, January 21, 2011 at the Summit View Nursing Home in Lake City. He was a member P.E.R.S. Retirement Board. Raymond enjoyed fishing and working on his car and he loved his family very much.

Naomi Grace Smith, age 97 of Lafollette went to her heavenly home, Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at the St. Mary’s Health and Rehab. She was a member of Midway Baptist Church. She was a member of Daughters of America. Naomi loved to sew, quilt, cook, do crafts and be a mommy to the world. After 27 years she retired from the shirt factory and set with people at the hospital and nursing home. She was the last of 12 children in the Wilder family.

Preceded in death by Husband: Ernest Smith. Parents: Houston William and Emma Catherine Simpson Wilder. Brothers and Sisters.

Survived by Son and Daughter in Law: Ernie and Linda Smith of Lafollette. Daughter and Son in Law: Wanda Sue and Paul Licklider of Dayton, Ohio. 4 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Wayne Lee Richardson, age 81 of Jacksboro went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at his home. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church of Jacksboro. Wayne was a loving husband of 52 years, father, grandfather and great grandfather who loved to attend church at Macedonia where he was deacon, Sunday school teacher and church clerk for over 48 years. He served on the Equalization Board of Campbell County, was a member of the board of directors of Farm Bureau until he became ill. Wayne enjoyed spending time with his family which he was very proud of. He also enjoyed farming, turkey hunting, woodworking and the outdoors.

Preceded in death by Son: Ronald Wayne Richardson. Grandson: Sammy Wayne Richardson. Brothers: J.C., Judson, Otis and S.D. Sister: Wilma Pierce.

Survived by Wife: Faye Richardson. Sons and Daughters in Law: Sam and Melinda Richardson and Scott and Rebecca Richardson all of Jacksboro and Steve and Connie Richardson of Dandridge, TN. Mrs. Juanita Lowe Partin, age 80 of LaFollette went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 19, 2011.  She was a member of the Indiana Avenue Baptist Church of LaFollette.  Juanita was raised in Clairfield , TN and lived in Middlesboro , KY for 48 years.  Juanita taught in the Middlesboro City School System for 27 years.  While living in Middlesboro, Juanita was an active member of Old Yellow Creek Baptist Church and then East Cumberland Baptist Church .  She was preceded in death by parents, General and Dorothy Lowe, brothers, Chester Lowe, Ray Lowe, and Jimmy Lowe, and sister, Jessie Snyder

 

Juanita is survived by her husband, John Partin, Jr.; Three Sons and Daughters-in-law, Barney and Paula Partin, of Belle Center , OH , Greg and Ruth Partin, of Powell , TN , and Rev. Mark and Charlene Partin of LaFollette; Six Grandchildren, Chris, Makayla, Ryan, Adam, Aaron, and Colby Partin.  She is also survived by one brother, Riley Lowe; Five Sisters, Loraine Davis, Wilma Hamblin, Dorcas Ditmer, Bernice Allen, and Norma Lowe.

Lucille F. Emmett Vincent age 87 of Lafollette passed away Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at her home. She was a member of Big Creek Baptist Church. Mrs. Vincent enjoyed cooking, reading books, loved listening to gospel music, and loved her family, especially her grandchildren very much.

Mrs. Shirley England Isbel age 69 of LaFollette born May 3, 1941, passed away Friday, January 7, 2011, at St. Mary’s Medical Center of Campbell County.  She was of the Church of God Faith .  Preceded in death by parents, Willie and Audra Dilbeck and sister, Agnes Durham.

Robert Tilton “Bob” Templin went home to his Heavenly Father on January 7, 2011 while at St. Mary’s Hospice in Knoxville.
He is preceded in death by his father Boyce Clay Templin, mother Ollie Mae Templin, Brother George Templin, and Sisters Kathleen Massengill and Frances Dotson.

     He was a member of First Baptist Church in Lake City where he taught Sunday School and was active on the building committee.

     Bob enjoyed being the “Voice” of the Lake City High School Lakers and then the Anderson County High School Mavericks for 42 years.  He was an avid UT football fan.  He loved working and loved his job.  He worked for Anderson County Schools for 48 years.

     Bob found so much joy in his family, especially the grandchildren.  Everyone that knew Bob loved and respected him.

     He is survived by his wife Alavene Templin, son Boyce Templin, daughter Kasey & husband Donnie Fox, all of Lake City.  Former wife Betty Templin, mother of children: Greg Templin of Cary, NC wife Stella, Scott Templin of Andersonville, TN wife Mona, Brad Templin of Lake City, TN wife Sharon, and daughter Amy Leinart of Lake City, TN.

     Grandchildren are: Melanie Hille, Rachel Templin, Tyler Templin, Jennilee Templin, Blake Templin, Gabe Templin, Ellie Leinart, Joey Leinart, Isabella Templin, and Presli Fox and Sister, Colleen Queener of Michigan.

Carroll age 80 of LaFollette passed away Sunday, January 9, 2011, at Cumberland Village Health & Rehabilitation Center of LaFollette.  She was a member of Grantsboro Baptist Church and retired from Imperial Reading Corp.  Preceded in death by husband, Johnny Carroll, two sons, Roger Dale Carroll and Lonnie Jim Carroll, parents, Henry Gibson Brady and Ollie Landrum Brady, sisters, Bonnie Walden and Ruby Wilson, brothers, Roy, Charlie, Bill and Bob Brady.

Shelby York age 90 of Lafollette went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, January 5, 2010 at the St. Mary’s Medical Center in Campbell County. He was a member of Fincastle Church of God. Shelby enjoyed spending time with his family and attending church. He was an active board member of Model Valley Development Council where he had served for over 30 years. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him and by those that he so deeply touched.

Ronald David Carter, age 50, of Knoxville passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center in Knoxville. He was born October 29, 1960 in West Virginia to the late Hubert Ronald and Dixie Ann Crews Carter. David was a big Ohio State Buckeyes fan. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and he had a big caring heart.  In addition to parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Deborah Healey.

Allen P. McMurphy, age 66 of Lafollette passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at the St. Mary’s Medical Center of Campbell County. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having been drafted during his senior year of high school to serve his country in Vietnam for 2 terms as a medic. He loved to fish and had a unique relationship with cats, having owned 7 indoor cats at the time of his untimely death from cancer. He was known to be a quiet scholar, owning a library of books with an emphasis on the true American government. Mr. McMurphy graduated from Mott Community College (Flint, MI) with an Associates Degree of Applied Science in 1971. He then graduated with a diploma in nursing from Hurley Hospital School of Nursing (Flint, MI) in 1970, followed by a residency at Grace Hospital School of Anesthesia (Detroit, MI), where he received a diploma in teaching all forms of various anesthesia techniques to the medical residents, dentists as well as student nurses. Mr. McMurphy was a member of the AANA, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and of Masonic Lodge in Michigan.

Preceded in death by Father: Allen G. McMurphy.

He is survived by his wife, Diana McGhee McMurphy; her parents, Ben and Julia McGhee of Jacksboro; 4 sons, Eric McMurphy (Holly) of Texas, Quincy McMurphy of Lafollette, Brian Walker (Judy) of Indiana, and Eric Walker (Danielle) of Kentucky, his mother, Salome' Rutter McMurphy of Michigan; two sisters, Donna Hillaker (Lawrence) and Linda Ledford (Ronald), both of Michigan. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.  

Memorial Service will be held on Memorial Day Weekend on May 29, 2011 at 2 PM in Martin Wilson Chapel.

Della Coriena Barber Rutherford, age 76, of the Beech Grove Community in Lake City, TN, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 1, 2011.  She was born on August 27, 1934, in Devonia, TN to the late Mitchell and Della Vitatoe Barber. Coriena was a member of Beech Grove Baptist Church and enjoyed watching TV and talking on the phone to her friends. Julia Ann (Judy Pike) Douglas, went Home to be with her Lord on the morning of December 27, 2010 after a lengthy illness.  She was at home with her husband when she gently went Home.  Judy accepted the Lord as her savior at a very young age and joyfully served Him all of her life.  Judy’s earliest memories were when she was three years old and the preacher would stand her on a chair in the pulpit to sing.  At the age of nine, she began singing and playing piano in local churches with her mother, Ida Pike.  She sang for the Lord all her life and is now singing in Heaven’s Choir.  Judy was a wonderful and devoted wife for over 38 years to her husband Rev. H.R. Douglas.  She was a tremendous help to her husband in the pastorate of Woodlake Baptist Church and Harvest Hills Baptist Church (now Indian Mound Baptist Church).  She was a blessing and great help to her husband and others in his ministry in over 50 churches.  Judy was also a talented and gifted writer, composing music and lyrics for Christian songs, and writing poems and short stories. 

She was preceded in death by her father and mother Charlie and Ida (Wright) Pike; brothers, Eugene and Roy Pike, and sister, Geraldine Pike Hale, all of Caryville. 

She is survived by her husband Rev. H.R. Douglas of Jacksboro

Mrs. Dorothy Petree Castleberry of LaFollette, passed away Sunday, December 26, 2010, at St. Mary’s Health and Rehab Center in LaFollette.  Dorothy was born on January 1, 1919, at Hazard, KY, a daughter of the late Ledford and Beulah Williams Petree.  She was educated in schools in Kentucky and Tennessee and was a graduate of Knoxville Business College . She worked for many years as a secretary and eye care technician. Dorothy’s life was distinguished by dignity and purpose and sparked by a spontaneous charm. Her role in the LaFollette First Baptist Church included many years of service as a Sunday School teacher, president of the Women’s Missionary Union and service on the Financial Board.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Hershel Dempson Castleberry in 1987; infant son, Hershel Martin; infant grandson, Kenneth Scott Fugate; sisters, Edith, Martha, and Bertha; brothers, Carson, Ledford, Jr. and  Martin Elmer. 

She is survived by children, Nancy Castleberry Fugate and husband, Charles, James K. Irene Miller Pultz  age 90 of Staunton, VA, formally of La Follette passed away Tuesday at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Pryor and Elizabeth Wilson Miller and stepmother Danna Miller. Prior to retirement, she was employed at the American Safety Razor Co. for 30 years.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Sherman, Jim, Henderson, Conda, and Claude Miller; two sisters, Jannie Baker and Jessie Ayers and a daughter in law, Sandra M. Pultz.

Funeral service will be 12pm Tuesday at Ivey Dell Church of God with Rev. Ray Woods officiating. The family will receive friends from 6pm-8pm Monday night at Martin-Wilson Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Baker's Forge Cemetery.


Hazel Jennings age 88 of La Follette, passed away Saturday, December 25, 2010 at St. Mary's of Campbell County. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Preceded in death by husband, John (Orville) Jennings, and son, John Lee Jennings.

Survivors: Sons, Clifford Jennings and Victor Jennings, both of La Follette.
              Grandchildren: Clifford Jennings Jr, Rebekah Lynn Jennings, and John Colt Jennings
              Daughters-in-law: Elizabeth Jennings, her right arm and Rebecca, the daughter she never
              had. Sister: Gladys White and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service 8:00 p.m. Monday, at Cross-Smith Chapel. Rev. Lonnie Weldon and Rev. Jimmy Orick
officiating. Interment will be at the Clairfield Cemetery with Honorary pallbearers, Donnie, Ray, David and Sammy
Jones and Jimmy White.

Katherine Riggs age 83 Lafollette passed away Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at the Jellico Community Hospital. She was a member of Rock Creek Community Church of God. Mrs. Riggs was a very loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother that enjoyed spending time with her family. She enjoyed working in her flower garden, gardening, cooking, and working with her hands. She was a blessing to everyone she met and always thought more of others than she did her self. She will be greatly missed by those that knew and loved her.

 

Preceded in death by Husband: Robert Riggs. Infant Son: Jimmy Darrell. Daughter: Darlene Jones. Grandson: Shannon Jones. Parents: Henry and Bertha Blevins. Brothers: Golble, Olan, and Franklin Blevins. Sisters: Vina Wynn, Grace Eldridge, and Lorene Porter.

 

Survived by Daughters: Opal Stephens and Companion: Jack Bolton of Lafollette. Tammy Housley and Husband: Mark. Grandchildren: Jason Shears and Wife: Penny, Windell Stephens and Wife: Kim. Great Grandchildren: Jacean, Alyssa, Emma, and Janna Stephens. Brother: Chester Blevins and Wife: Ruth of Centerville, Ohio. Sisters: Osa Bolton of Lafollette and Hazel Spradlin of Milford, Ohio. And a host of friends and relatives.

 

Funeral service will be 8 PM Thursday, December 23 in Martin Wilson Chapel with Rev. Mike Smith and Rev. Audie Murray officiating. Interment will be 11 AM Friday in Peabody Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM Thursday night before funeral service.

Mrs. Beatrice Marsee Patty age 89, of Niota , TN passed away on Monday December 20, 2010.  She was a member of the Davis Creek Primitive Baptist Church .  Mrs. Patty was the first woman preservation mechanic at the marine base in Yermo , CA .  Preceded in death by her husband: Frank J. Patty, parents: John and Flora Ellen Marsee.

Ada Ruth Clotfelter Lawson, age 76, of Knoxville died on December 23, 2010 at Mercy Residential Hospice.  Mrs. Lawson was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mona Lee Clotfelter of Caryville and a 1955 graduate of the Nursing Program at Berea College in Berea, Ky.
