Ruby Angel, age 82, of Greeneville, Tennessee, formerly of La Follette, passed away April 21, 2010.  She was saved at an early age at Indian Creek Baptist Church and attended church in Greeneville.

Survivors:  Sons and Daughter-in-laws, Wayne and Paris Angel, Eddie and Katheryn Angel, Daughter, Eva Dotson, Grandchildren, Johnny and Shannon Angel, Blake, and Tajuan Sheehan, Christopher Angel, and Knevada Dotson, Great Grandson, Nicholas Sheehan, several other Relatives and Friends.

Lee Clayton Sweat, age 82, of La Follette, passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2010.  He was born April 17, 1928, in Kentucky.  Lee was a loving caring  husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.  He was an inspiration and kind to his friends throughout his long life.  He was preceded in death by Son, Robert Sweat, Parents, Casper William and Ethel Violet Sweat, Sisters, Bonnie and Allene, Brothers, Leon and Glen Louie.

Survivors:  Loving Wife of 62-years, Mary A. Rev. Casper "Tip" Moore, age 85, of Middlesboro, Kentucky passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at Middlesboro Appalachian Regional Hospital (ARH).  Funeral services will be Friday, April 23, 2010, at 8:00 p.m. at the Creech Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Chad Burdette and Rev. Clayton Dunsmore presiding.  Music will be provided by the Alter Springs Singers.  Graveside services will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Green Hills Memorial Gardens.  Full military honors will be given by American Legion Dewey Guy Post # 14.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the building funds of Indian Creek Baptist Church or Gap Creek Baptist Church.  The family will receive friends Friday, April 23, 2010, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Creech Funeral Home in  Middlesboro, Kentucky.

Ruth Dyke, age 82, of La Follette, passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at Cumberland Village Rehabilitation Center where the nurses and CNAs became her friends and family.  Ruth was saved and baptized at an early age and was a loving and caring person.  She was preceded in death by her Husband, Dave, Brothers, Homer, R.T., and Jack Norman, Sisters, Helen and Hazel.

Myrtle Marie Garner Leinart, age 67, of Lake City, Tennessee, passed away Sunday, April 18, 2010, at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge.  She was a member of Lick Creek Church of God.  Mrs. Leinart enjoyed shopping, cooking, canning, traveling, and visiting her family and friends.  She also loved gardening.

Millard McKinney age 78 of Jacksboro

Millard McKinney, age 78, of Jacksboro, passed away Sunday, April 18, 2010, at UT Medical Center in Knoxville.  He was a member of Old Pathway Gospel Church.  Preceded in death by Parents, Carl and Grace Miller McKinney, Brothers, Lawton and Quenton McKinney.  For many years, Millard was the owner and operator of the Boston Department Store in La Follette.  He also served on the board of directors of the La Follette Medical Center.

Ray Donald Roach age 78 of La Follette

Ray Donald Roach, age 78, of La Follette, passed away Sunday, April 18, 2010, at the St. Mary's Medical Center in Knoxville.  He was a member of First Baptist Church.  He loved his church, Sunday school class, and his family very much.  Mr. Roach enjoyed visiting his favorite uncle and aunt, Allan and June Murray in Maryland.  He enjoyed sports, church, and model trains.

Preceded in death by Parents, Phillip and Oneida Murray Roach, Stepfather, J.P. Wright.

Survivors:  Uncle and Aunt Allan and June Murray of Maryland, several Cousins and Special Friends.

Aline Myers Perry age 95 of Jacksboro

Aline Myers Perry, age 95, of Jacksboro, passed away Sunday, April 18, 2010, at St. Mary's Health and Rehab.  She was a life-long member of Jacksboro United Methodist Church.  She was a graduate of East Tennessee State University and the University of Tennessee where she received a Master's Degree.  She was a charter member of Delta Kappa Gamma Education Society where she served as its first President.  Aline retired after 39 years of service as a teacher in the Campbell County School System.  She volunteered as a Pink Lady at La Follette Medical Center for several years.  She was a member of the Campbell County Women's Republican Club and the Campbell County Historical Society.  She was preceded in death by her Parents, Hugh and Myrtle Wier Myers, Sister, Mary Ridenour and Husband, Joe, Brother, Wier Myers.

Survivors are Daughter, Mary Jo Massengill of Clinton, Son and Daugher-in-law, Hugh Ray and Phyllis Perry of Jacksboro, Grandchildren, Tisha Gay Maxwell, George Massengill, LaDonna Massengill, and Deanna Robertson, Great-grandchildren, Isaac, Kristan, Kendall, Travis, Erica, Jordan, Jacob, Mathew, and Maggie, many Cousins, other Relatives, and Friends.

Charles Edward Ward age 62 of Elk Valley, Tennessee

Charles Edward Ward, age 62, of Elk Valley, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord on April 15, 2010.  He worked for the Campbell County Road Department for 17 years.  He loved his family, gardening, and the outdoors.  He was a member of New Canaan Baptist Church.

Charles was preceded in death by his Parents, Charlie Ward and Mary Mason Ward, Stepmother, Nora Ward, Daughter, Melissa Ruth Ward, Brothers, Virgil Ward, R.P. Ward, L.M. Ward, and Brion Ward.

Christine "Bailey" Dodson age 78 of Lake City, Tennessee

Christine “Bailey” Dodson, age 78, of Lake City, Tennessee, passed away Thursday April 15, 2010, at her residence.  She was born March 23, 1932, in Campbell County, Tennessee to the late Henry and Virney Cox Bailey.  She was a member of the Ridgeview Baptist Church.  She loved fishing, crafts, and going to flea markets.  In additon to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Sons Gary Lynn and Lloyd Ray Dodson, and her Brothers, Floyd and Sam Bailey.

Survivors:  Husband Elmer Dodson of Lake City, Sons, David Dodson and Wife Jean of Lake City, Eddie Dodson and Wife Judy of Caryville, and Danny Dodson of Sweetwater, six Grandchildren and four Great Grandchildren, several Nieces, Nephews, and host of other relatives and friends.

Fleda Phillips age 86 of Lake City, Tennessee

Fleda Phillips, age 86, of Lake City, passed away Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at her home.  She was born November 28, 1923, in  Anderson County, Tennessee.  She was one of four children born to Ervin and Susie White.  Fleda was a member of the Clinch River Baptist Church.  She loved to quilt and collect Fenton Glass.  She was the owner of Phillips Grocery Store in the Cherry Bottom Community.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Husband, Willard Phillips, Step Mother, Nell White, Brother, Ovas White, and Sister, Bobbie Lee Rainey.

Survivors:  Daughter, Eula Beeler and Husband Roy of Lake City, Brothers, Giltz White and Wife Samantha of Clinton and Harry Winchester of Laurel Grove, Grandsons, Derrick Beeler of Lake City and Byron Beeler and Wife Chasity of Knoxville, Great Grand Daughter, Sadie Beeler of Knoxville, several Nieces and Nephews, and a host of other family and friends.

L.D. Bunch, age 82, of Briceville, passed away Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. He was born February 22, 1928, in Anderson County, Tennessee, to the late Bill and Lou Ella Massengill Bunch.  He was a member of Armes Chapel in Morgan County, Tennessee. He enjoyed the mountains, ginsenging, coon hunting, and his coon dogs.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his Sisters, Mamie and Hazel, and his brothers, Delmer, J.C., and Everett Lee.

Viola Violet, age 70, of La Follette, passed away on Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at St. Mary's Medical Center of Campbell County.  She was a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by her Father, Fred H. Campbell, Mother, Elizabeth Maag, and Son, Alvin Thomas "Tommy" Violet.

James Edward Tindell, age 77, of New River, Tennessee, passed away Friday, April 2, 2010, at his residenceHe was born April 25, 1932, in Anderson County, Tennessee, to the late Cortland and Della Phillips Tindell.  James was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed building linears for CB Radios that he called “Jet Amps.”  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife, Betty Tindell, and sister, Mable “Vickey” Pyle.

Opal S. Tackett, age 86, of Smyrna, Tennessee, formerly of Weeksbury, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at Community Care of Rutherford County in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.  She was born February 11, 1924, at Dunleary in Pike County, Kentucky.  Opal was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years Harold J. Tackett, Daughter, Barbara A. (Tackett) Parks, parents, Ray and Roma (Hurly) Mullins, and Siblings, Ted Mullins, Mabel Morton, and Pebble Dameron.

Ruby Ethel Hutson, age 92, of Jacksboro passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at St. Mary's Medical Center of Campbell County.  She was a fulltime mom and dad who loved her family very much.  Mrs. Hutson enjoyed flowers, yard work, and was a hard worker.

Clifford Stein age 93 of La Follette

Clifford Stein, age 93, of La Follette went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at the St. Mary's Medical Center of Campbell County.  He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Johnson City.  He was a loving husband of 44 years, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.  Cliff enjoyed fishing and working with his hands.  He was a veteran of World War II and a master sergeant as were his brothers.  He was also awarded a bronze star for his bravery.

Preceded in death by Parents, John and Mable Stein, Brothers, Charles and Card "Bud" Stein.

Survived by Wife, Mildred Stein, Daughters, Sharon and kenneth Pearson of San Diego, Kathleen Carmack of Ladera Ranch, California, and Karen Wilcox of Anaheim Hills, California, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Pless Seiber, age 79 of Powell, Tennessee., formerly of Devonia, Tennessee, passed away Thursday, April 1, 2010, at the Mercy Medical Center in North Knoxville.  He was born April 13, 1930, in Devonia to the late John and Mary West Seiber. He was a member of the Free Communion Baptist Church. Pless was a retired Coal Miner and was a member of the Black Diamond Lodge # 625 F & AM in Petros, Tennessee.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Trula Burress Seiber, daughter, Martha June Seiber, sisters, Elsie Seiber and Ella Jones, and brothers, Johnny Ray Seiber and Elsic Seiber.

Rosie Mae Vann age 94 of La Follette

Rosie Mae Vann, age 94, of La Follette passed away in her home on March 28, 2010, after an extended illness.  She was the last surviving member of the family of Frank and Helen Chapman.  Rosie Mae was baptized by Preacher Harmon in 1926 in the Powell River, now known as Norris Lake.  She was a founding member of Coolidge First Baptist Church.  Rosie Mae Vann was always a Christian example to everyone she was ever around.  She always told everyone that she met about her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Rosie Mae was proud to tell the story of how good God was to her and her family.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Joshua Vann; her son, Larry Vann; grandson, Jerry Nelson; great grandson, David Ryan Muse and son-in-law, Lee Nelson. 

Survivors, Daughters, Mildred (Midge) Nelson and Shirley Brown, Daughter-in-law, Betty Vann, eight Grandchildren, nine Great Grandchildren, and six Great-Great Grandchildren, along with a host of nieces and nephews including a niece, Helen Graves, who was also a caregiver.  Rosie Mae Vann had a host of friends and church family-friends including caregivers, Pat, Janice and Josie.

Henry was a mason, past master and member of Jacksboro Lodge #322.  He loved being in the mountains, playing gospel music in church, genealogy research, tuning and repairing pianos. Frank Lay age 76 of Somerset, Kentucky formerly of Lake City, Tennessee

Frank Lay, age 76, of Somerset, Kentucky, formerly of Lake City, Tennessee, passed away Friday, March 26, 2010, at his home.  He was born June 21, 1933, in Pioneer, Tennessee, to the late Alex and Viola Meredith Lay.  Frank was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Somerset, Kentucky.  He enjoyed NASCAR, fishing, hunting, and traveling with his family.  Frank was a member of the Coal Creek Lodge # 492 F & AM and was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite.  He was an Air Force Veteran Airman 1st Class.  Frank drove a truck for 37 1/2 years driving for A.J. Metler, Yellow Freight, Square D, and Newman and Pemberton.  Frank was a Teamster, having belonged to Local 100 Cincinnati, Ohio, 651 Lexington, Kentucky, and 29 Waynesboro, Virginia.  He drove more than three-million miles accident-free.  Frank was awarded the Driver of the Year in 1978.  He was very professional and known by his co-workers as, "Friendly Frank."  Frank was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, WIlliam Lay and infant brother Leroy Lay, sister, Pauline Carroll.

Richard Lee "Dick" Meyers, age 85, of Caryville passed away Thursday, March 25, 2010, at the UT Medical Center.  He was born September 8, 1924, in Portsmouth, Ohio, to the late Glen and Sylvia Morgan Meyers.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in World War II.  He was a member of Pine Hill Baptist Church and Old Pathway Baptist Church.  Dick enjoyed watching sports, golfing, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends.  He was a member of the Campbell County Honor Guard.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by granddaughter Linda Walker, step-grandson Joe Beck, and several brothers and sisters.

Fred Daniel age 70 of La Follette

Fred Daniel, age 70, of La Follette passed away on Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville.  Fred was born January 8, 1940 in Tazewell, Tennessee, to the late Ernie and Oley Daniel.  Fred enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.  He was a United State Army Veteran and retired from Ford Motor Company after 30 years of service to move back to Campbell County to build a beautiful home on Norris Lake.  He will be missed by all his family and friends.

Edith Rosetta (Brewer) Paul, age 92 of La Follette passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 24, 2010, at St. Mary’s Rehab Center. She was born on July 13, 1917 in Fork Ridge, Tennessee, and had a loving spirit that encircled everyone she met.  She was a member of The Church of God of Union Assembly from an early age of thirteen.  Her favorite words were "I love you" and "I'm praying for you."

Preceded in death by father, John Henry Brewer; mother, Axie Victoria Brewer; loving husband of fifty-three years, Charles Estel Paul; five children, Jesse Willard Paul, William Junior Paul, Charles Curtis Paul, Kenneth Ray Paul, Mary Catherine Fritz; one grandson and one granddaughter; one great grandson, one great great granddaughter; one great great grandson; sisters Ida Burnette, Louise Paul, Pearl Beeler, Vinnie Fishback; brothers, Bert Brewer, Johnny Brewer, Charles Brewer.

Walter Eugene Huddleston, age 77, of Lincoln Park, Michigan, formerly of La Follette, passed away March 23, 2010.  Preceded in death by parents, Thomas M. and Myrtle Ayers Huddleston, brothers, Jimmy and Clifford Huddleston, sisters, Bessie Maria, Martha Leach, Shirley Jones, and Sara Marlow.

Survivors:  Wife, Dru Huddleston; Sisters, Ruth Sheteron, and Betty Jo Rutherford and husband George, Sister-in-law, Carolyn Huddleston Queener, and Brother-in-law, Carl Ed Marlow.  Several nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives.

Funeral services Saturday, March 27, 2010, 8:00 p.m. at Walters Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Dudley Rogers age 77 of Jacksboro

Joe Dudley Rogers, age 77, of Jacksboro passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2010.  He was a Christian man, a loving father, grandfather, and husband.  Joe was born and raised in La Follette and went to work for Newport News Shipbuilding in 1951 and became a master shipbuilder.  He played on the Newport News Shipbuilding Golf Team.  Joe was a Korean Veteran in the U.S. Army.  He raised his family in Hampton, Virginia, and enjoyed 13-years of retirement in Jacksboro.  He had a great sense of humor, deep appreciation for nature, gardening and birds, and much love for his family.

Preceded in death by Parents:  Ida and Russell Rogers of La Follette.  Sisters:  Eva Dennison and Isabell Lee.  Brothers:  Bob Rogers, Bill Rogers, and Henry "Bud" Rogers.

Survived by wife of 50 years:  Janet Rogers.  Daughters:  Jodi Denny of Charlottesville, Virginia, Robin Lloyd of Carey, Idaho, Kim Link of Hampton, Virginia, Sharon Howeth of Hearst, Texas.  Son and daughter-in-law:  Larry and Clara Pickle of Temple, Texas.  Sisters:  Mabel Rogers of La Follette and Rosalee Tabb of Oklahoma.  Grandchildren:  Jordan Denny of Charlottesville, Chad Watkins, Tyler Watkins, and Kaitlyn Watkins of Hampton, Virginia.

Clarence “Pete” Warren Houck age 77 of Lake City, Tennessee

Clarence "Pete" Warren Houck, age 77, of Lake City, passed away Monday, March 22, 2010, at his residence while watching his Lady Vols beat Dayton in Round Two of the Women’s NCAA Tournament. He was born June 12, 1932, in Mifflin, Pennsylvania, to the late Russell and Eleanor Criley Houck. Pete was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church and Lake City Lions Club. He served as mayor of Lake City for two terms, has served on the Lake City council for more than 40 years and was currently serving as Vice-Mayor.  Pete was currently working part-time for Materials Engineering & Testing in Oak Ridge.  He also worked for the Town Crier newspaper. Pete started working at Martin Marietta in 1965 and retired in 1995. He enjoyed coaching Little League Baseball, UT sports, especially the Lady Vols and gardening.  Pete loved spending time with family and friends, especially his sons and grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his parents and special aunt and uncle who raised him, Beatrice and Clarence Criley.

Survivors:  Wife of 57 years Hazel Hammons Houck of Lake City.  Sons:  Gary & Houck wife Lori and Terry “Tiny” Houck & wife Missy all of Lake City, Roger Houck & wife Laura of Clinton.  Grandchildren:  Dr. Misti Houck of Whiteriver, Arizona,      Shaunda Houck Butler & Joshua of Lake City, Sheena Houck and Ryan Houck of Norris, Ethan Houck of Lake City, Michael & Laurel Baes of Murfreesboro, along with Casey Houck, Cody Houck, Chance Houck all of Clinton.  A host of other relatives and friends.

Vernal H. "Harry" Summers age 71 of La Follette

Vernal H. "Harry" Summers, age 71, of La Follette passed away Sunday, March 21, 2010.  He will be greatly missed by the many that knew and loved him.  Harry served 20-years in the United States Air Force as an air traffic controller in various parts of the world.  After retiring from the UASF, he worked for Foster Farms in California for 25-years.  Upon retiring the second time, he returned to his hometown of La Follette and the mountains and lake he loved.

Preceded in death by Mother:  Alice Summers.  Father:  Vernal E. Summers.  Sister:  Barbara A. Summers.  First Wife:  Ingrid Summers.

Survived by Wife:  Barbara J. Carol McCarty age 71 of La Follette

Carol McCarty, age 71, of La Follette passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at St. Mary's Campbell County.  She retired from U.T. Medical Center.

Preceded in death by Parents, Clark and Rebecca Turner; Son, David Beeler.

Survivors include:  Husband, Herschel McCarty.  Daughters, Rebecca Lance of Jacksboro and Rhonda Dison of La Follette.  Son, Steven McCarty of Caryville.  Seventeen Grandchildren and six Great-great grandchildren.  Brothers, Charles Turner of Toledo, Ohio, and John Turner of Trenton, Michigan.  Sister, Betty Lemerand of Orange County, California.

Misty Dawn Stidham age 34 of Seymour, Tennessee

Misty Dawn Stidham, age 34, of Seymour, Tennessee, passed away Friday, March 19, 2010, at her residence.  She was born March 8, 1976, in Anderson County, Tennessee.  Misty was a member of the Beech Grove Baptist Church.  She enjoyed gardening, flowers, and spending time with family and friends, especially her children.  Misty is preceded in death by her grandparents, Helton Smith, Blanche Marie Smith, and Mary Wilson.
