Loretta “Gezzle” Golden Bledsoe, age 60, of Clinton passed away Sunday, August 1, 2010 at her home.  She was born April 28, 1950 in Anderson County to the late Don Luther and Gertrude McCoy Golden. Gezzle was a member of the Laurel Branch Baptist Church and enjoyed taking care of people and making them laugh. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by sisters, Lena Sue Bledsoe and Clara Jean Armes, brother, James “Midnight” Golden.

Willard Lee Rhea, age 87, of Lake City, passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. He was born June 29, 1923 in Anderson County, TN. to the late Millard and Ada Owen Rhea. Willard was a member of Blowing Springs Baptist Church. He enjoyed farming, his antique cars, singing, and going to church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Clowers Rhea, and brothers, Elmer and Kyle Rhea, sisters, Joyce and Ruth Rhea.

Billie (Bill) Ewin Forkum age 71 of Powell, Tennessee

Billie Bill Ewin Forkum, age 71 of Powell, passed away on Monday, July 26, 2010 at the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. He was born October 10, 1938 in Hartsville, TN. Bill was a member of the Unity Missionary Baptist Church of Powell and is resting sweetly in the arms of his loving Savior. He was a retired Army Sergeant from the 82nd Airborne, who served for 10 years stationed at Fayetteville, NC and Germany as a Paratrooper, who loved serving his country. Bill retired from Tennessee Asphalt in Knoxville in 2004. He was General Manager for Waco Trucking in Oliver Springs for over 20 years and Co-Owner of Oliver Springs and LACO Mining Companies. Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. He loved spending time with family and friends, music, fishing, and horses. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him. Bill is preceded in death by, Wife, Margaret Seiber Forkum, Father, Walter Marion Forkum, Daughter, Cathy Brown, and Sisters, Shelby Forkum and Betty Schular.

Mr. George Wayne Harmon, age 61 of Speedwell, passed away Sunday, July 25, 2010, at Claiborne County Hospital .  He was preceded in death by parents, William Frank and Mae Turner Harmon, brothers, Oscar Ray, Arnold Joseph, Doyle Gene, William Frank, Jr., Charles Jack, Leroy Harmon, and Ernest Harmon, and infant sister, Evaola.

James "Jim" Jobe age 63 of Lake City, Tennessee

James “Jim” Jobe, age 63, a life long resident of Lake City, passed away Friday, July 23, 2010 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Knoxville. Jim was born November 5, 1946 in Campbell County, Tn. to the late Eugene and Grace Jones Jobe.  He was saved and baptized at Pine Hill Baptist Church. Jim enjoyed restoration of antique and street rod cars. He loved animals, especially his cats he called his “babies”. Jim was a coal miner for 25 years and followed in his dad’s footsteps who worked for over 50 years in the coal mines. He was a proud man of very strong principles, and had impeccable work ethics.  In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by brother, Sonny Jobe, sister, Gladys Jobe Hembree, and nephew Gregory Roger Lowe.

David Howard Mangum age 74 of La Follette passed away Thursday, July 22, 2010 at the Cumberland Village Nursing Home. He enjoyed fishing, and loved his family very much. 

Preceded in death by Parents, Brother and Sister.

Survived by Wife: Joyce Mangum of Lafollette. Son: David Mangum and Fiance: Laura Jones of Middlesboro, KY. Grandson: Tyler Mangum of Middlesboro, KY.

Maude Brown (Mrs. Otho) age 98 of Clinton, Tennessee

Maude Brown (Mrs. Otho) was born June 13, 1912, on the family farm near Clinton and died at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge on July 20, 2010, after a brief illness. She is preceded in death by her husband, Otho F. Brown, parents, Etta Foster Worthington and Oscar Worthington, and five siblings. She is survived by daughter, Cathy F. Brown, sister, Annette Stooksbury, and host of nieces and nephews and host of friends, Sue Alley and Carolyn Cornelius. She worked two decades at Magnet Knitting Mills before she and her husband founded Otho Brown Realty Co. in 1949 where she served as secretary and bookkeeper for sixty years. Mrs. Brown was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church. She loved long rambling drives, visiting friends, eating out, big band music, reading, and watching the news, and in her younger days working in her flowers. 

The family will receive friends at Memorial United Methodist Church in Clinton from 1:00 PM until 2:00 Friday, July 23. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 PM at the Church followed by burial at Sunset Cemetery with Rev. Laurence Hesser officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Food Pantry at Memorial United Church, 323 North Main St. Clinton, TN 37716, would be appreciated. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be William Alley, Tom Russell, Art Miller, Steve Queener, Danny Branham, Danny Holt, James M. Seivers Jr., Charles G. Delmer Lindsay, age 64 of Jacksboro passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at the Holston Valley Medical Center. Delmer was a member and deacon of Indian Creek Baptist Church. He loved hunting, fishing, landscaping and mowing. He also loved his family very much.

Glnnth "Preach" Carden, age 74, of Powell, passed away Saturday July 10, 2010 at his residence. He was born September 27, 1935 in Lake City, TN.  to the late Zelmer and Della Thompson Carden.  “Preach”  was a US Army Veteran.  He was a member of the Longfield Baptist Church. He enjoyed four-wheeling, gardening, woodmaking, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Darrell Carden, brothers,  Zelmer Carden Jr., and Leonard Carden, and  sisters,  Louise Harless, Reba Daniels, and  Betty Carden.

Pearl Goans age 72

Pearl Goans, age 72, peacefully, with family by her side, Pearl took the hand of her precious Lord and he led her home on Saturday, July 10, 2010.

She was born on April 17, 1938, in Stainsville, Tennessee, and was the oldest of 11 children born to Elmer and Dorothy Goans. Pearl was a life-long resident of Briceville and Clinton and worked for Sprague Electric and HomeCrest Corporation before retiring. She was a devoted member of Second Baptist Church, Clinton, and cherished each member of her Sunday school class.Pearl was known for her generous spirit, love of family, and shared her father’s passion for flower gardening and Christmas. Her quiet generosity is known to those who she willingly helped throughout her life. Pearl lived modestly, but she freely gave to anyone in need by providing food and warm blankets to those who were less fortunate. She lived her life on her own terms and enjoyed her independence.

To those of us who loved and cherished Pearl, we ask that you honor her memory by giving freely to others in Jesus name.
 

She is preceded in death by father and mother, Elmer and Dorothy Goans; brother, Columbus Goans; grandparents, Rev. John and Ida B. Phillips and Columbus and Laura Goans.

Barbara Ladd, beloved wife of Peter passed away at 3:50 PM on Wednesday July 7, 2010 following a long battle with cancer. Barbara, the daughter of Richard and Gladys Rentell, was born on March 22, 1944 in London , England where she married, Peter, her husband of 45 years. Barbara leaves behind her beloved children, Ian and Sharon, her daughter-in-law Lisa, and grandchildren Chelsea, Madison and Zachary.

Wanda Lou Kitts age 69 of La Follette

Wanda Lou Kitts age 69 of LaFollette went home to be with the Lord Saturday, July 3, 2010.  She was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. Mrs. Kitts was born to James Wyatt and Monnie Wilson Wyatt on December 4, 1940. She was a very Loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Mr. Kirby was a loving husband of 43 years that enjoyed Bluegrass Gospel Music, fishing, and loved spending time with his family and friends.

JoAnn Norman Silcox age 74 of La Follette

JoAnn Norman Silcox, age 74, of La Follette passed away Friday, June 25, 2010, at Ft. Sanders Hospital in Knoxville.  She was a member of Midway Baptist Church and retired from Imperial Reading in La Follette and Levi Strauss in Powell.  Preceded in death by parents Joe and Donnie Norman, Sisters Dora Miller and Rosella Norman, brothers Walter and Edmond Norman.

Survivors:  Husband, Charles Silcox, Son, Donnie Joe Silcox and Linda of La Follette, Granddaughter raised as a daughter, Christy Letner and Justin, Great grandchildren, Joe Goins and Samantha Leach, Step Great Grandchildren, Brian and LeeAnn Butler, Sisters, Paulette Norman of La Follette, Ida Mae Hill of Knoxville, Brothers, Charles Norman and Alice of Church Hill, James Norman and Leonard and Mary all of Powell.

Funeral service Monday, 8:00 p.m. at Midway Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Raines and Rev. Johnny Dabney officiating.  Interment Tuesday 11:00 a.m. at Campbell Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Midway Baptist Church.

Nadine Brantley age 62 of Jacksboro

Nadine Brantley age 62 of Jacksboro passed away Saturday, June 26, 2010 at the St. Mary’s Medical Center in Campbell Co. She was a member of Forks Grove Baptist Church. Nadine enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters and loved her family very much. She enjoyed working puzzles and watching TV. 

Preceded in death by Parents: Arlie and Emma Brantley.

Survived by Son and Daughter in Law: Barry and Brenda Pierce. Grandchildren: Kimberly Pierce, Nichole Greer, and Tasha Irvin. 5 Great Grandchildren. Sisters: Hazel Parks, Geneva Goins, Dorothy McCreary, and Juanita Helland. Special Friend: Bessie.

Funeral service will be 8 PM Monday, June 28 in Martin Wilson Chapel with Rev. Bill Braden officiating. Interment will be 10 AM Tuesday in Campbell Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM Monday night before funeral service.

Tommy Overton age 80 of La Follette

Mr. Tommy Overton age 80 of LaFollette, passed away Saturday, June 26, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Knoxville .  He was a member of New Horizon Baptist Church , member of the Campbell County Masonic Lodge # 778 F. & A.M., Knoxville Scottish Rite Bodies and a Shriner. He was a business owner in Campbell County , being an agent for Farm Bureau Insurance Company for 22 years, owner of Jellico Motel and Restaurant and Jellico’s Best Western Motel and Restaurant for many years, and was formerly employed at Y-12 and K-25 in Oak Ridge . Preceded in death by an infant son, parents, Henry Fate Overton and Cleda Chadwell Overton, half-brothers, Bernard Chadwell and Hughie Overton. Sisters-in-law, Geneva Bishop and brother-in-law, Charles Trammell.  

Survivors: Wife of 61 years, Mrs. Leota Overton of LaFollette. Daughter, Suzi Wilson and Husband Sonny; Son, Tommy Overton and wife JoAnn all of LaFollette; Grandchildren, Whit Wilson, Emily Carson and husband Krey, Wayne Overton and Heather Overton; Great-grandchildren, Hannah and Thomas Wilson. Special friend and brother-in-law, Sidney Bishop of Jefferson City , TN.  Sisters-in-law, Mary Louise Trammell and  Charlotte Welch and husband Lendon. Several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  

Funeral services Monday 8 P.M. at New Horizon Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Herron and Rev. Hobert McCreary officiating.  Family and friends will meet Tuesday 10:15 A.M. at Walters Funeral Home and proceed to Powell Valley Cemetery and Memorial Gardens for graveside services and interment.  The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M.
