Cpl. Gary Jeffers and Deputy Darryl Chapman, with the Campbell County Sheriff’s Department, answered a call last Saturday, May 19, about a person passed out in a vehicle.

The vehicle was parked in the road on Emerald Glenn Drive in the south part of the county off Shady Cove Road.

Chapman found a man later identified as Derek Oldham passed out in the driver’s seat with the keys to the vehicle in the ignition. Oldham had a syringe in his left hand along with a plastic baggy containing what was believed to be methamphetamine laying on his lap, according to a report from the Campbell County Sheriff’s Department.  Oldham was asked if he had taken anything and he said he had not, but appeared to have glossy blood shot eyes.

Oldham, 34, 3042 Lake City Hwy, Lake City is charged with driving under influence (DUI), driving while suspended, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of schedule II-controlled substance and violation implied consent law. Oldham remains in the county jail this morning on a $10,000 bond.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 05/25/2018-6AM)
