On the list of bridges, the old, gray, wooden bridge over Davis Creek on Asher Lane,  ranks as the 100th and last on Campbell County’s list of bridges.

However, after a recent state inspection, the bridge is now Number 1 on the county’s priority list according to Campbell County Road Superintendent Ron Dilbeck.  Part of the priority includes closing the old bridge for good on Wednesday and creating a by-pass until the new bridge is built.

Dilbeck (L) stands with Dennis Clear on top of the old bridge.  It perhaps was only fitting that Clear was there on the day the old bridge was officially closed.  Because back in the 1970s, it was Clear and the late Charlie Riggs who built the bridge.

As of late yesterday, the bridge is closed, and county highway crews have the detour open.

Dilbeck says the state will bid out the new bridge here in a few weeks.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 07/12/2018-6AM)
