The past meets the present Sunday at Hillcrest Baptist Church as the church on the hill next to the high school marks its 50th year.   The church was organized in 1968 under the leadership of the late Reverend Paul Heatherly.  It all began with Mr. and Mrs. Hodge Claiborne donating the property for the church.  That was seven years before Campbell High opened.

Rev. Heatherly’s widow, Faye, recalls the early days of meeting in a tent on the hill before the church was constructed.

Current church pastor, Lynn Ray, said, “It is a testament to the mission God placed upon Paul Heatherly’s heart to start a ministry to the community through a “church on the hill”.   Now, on the fiftieth anniversary ,the Christian Learning Center begins a new chapter of the vision starting with the Release Time class.”

Sunday’s 50th anniversary homecoming begins with special singing groups at 10 am.  Heart of Grace, the Inman Family, and the Botts Family will perform.  Lunch is served around noon.

All former members and members of the community are encouraged to attend.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 09/14/2018-6AM)
