Late today, October 31st, 2018, a Claiborne County jury found Vanassa Ann Hurst, of Clairfield, TN, guilty of 1st Degree Murder and 2nd Degree Murder.    The victim in this case was Hershel Gulley.  Under Tennessee law, the sentence for 1st Degree Murder is Life Imprisonment with the possibility of parole after 51 years.  Claiborne County Criminal Court Judge E. Shayne Sexton revoked Hurst’s bail and ordered her to be held in the Claiborne County Jail for sentencing on 2nd Degree Murder until February 25th, 2019.  This case was prosecuted by Detective Bradley Duncan of the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office.  Members of the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office, Claiborne County E-911, Claiborne County EMS, the Claiborne County Rescue Squad, and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Crime Laboratory assisted in the investigation.  At trial, the State was represented by District Attorney General Jared Effler and Assistant District Attorneys General Graham Wilson and Matthew McClung.   (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 10/31/2018-5PM)
