A whole bunch of city employees, volunteers, firefighters and LUB employees came out in force on Wednesday in the sun and cold to turn La Follette into a Christmas town.  TOP PHOTO:  Every project needs a supervisor.  With a cup of of coffee close by and a big smile, Councilman Bill Archer kept his truck warm for anyone needing a quick warm-up.

The first event of the season will be the lighting of the Christmas Tree, at the Fleet Building and Tabatha Smith’s office, at 6 pm on Friday, Nov. 30. Members of the Community Choir (correction) will be singing Christmas carols at the lighting. On Saturday morning, Dec. 1, the starter pistol to start the 5K Santa Trot fires at 9 am in front of City Hall on South Tennessee Avenue. The annual Christmas parade starts later at 6 pm on Saturday evening. Anyone participating should be at La Follette Elementary School by 4 pm for line up.  The parade will be televised live over WLAF-TV 12.

Mayor Mike Stanfield announces that the city is hosting a Christmas light decoration contest for homes and businesses. To enter, participants should call city hall at 423-562-4961. Prizes will be awarded for first place, $200, second place, $100 and third place, $50 for residential participants. The winning business will be given a plaque. The Christmas committee will be judging the contest.

  1. Looks like we have chosen the right town to move too,everything looks so pretty! Can’t make it this Christmas but will definetly be there for the next one
