“We’re so close.”  Cougars and their coaches have said that for weeks.  Well, this afternoon at Anderson County High School, Campbell crossed over into the win column that had alluded it for the first 16 games of the season as it defeated Gibbs by 15-points.

Gibbs jumped out in front with a 4 – 0 start and led at the end of the first quarter 11 to 9.  The Cougars then put together their best quarter of the season on both ends of the court outscoring Gibbs 25 to 7 to take a 34 – 18 lead at the half.  Campbell held its largest lead of the day of 23 at the close of the third 44-23 as it scored 10 of the quarter’s 15 points.  Gibbs would not go away.  The Eagles chased the Cougars in the final quarter but to no avail as Campbell held on for a 57 – 42 win in a 19 to 13 fourth.

First-year head coach Darrell Cox said, “It was good to see smiles in the locker room –  this is why we do it (coach for these boys).”  Hats off to them he added.

Senior Bryce Duncan played big upfront for the orange clad Cougars in a career game.  The 6-7 post player tallied 21 points while securing 12 rebounds after 10 points and 10 rebounds on Friday night.  He even added a steal to his line late in the game.

Jake Lane was the other Cougar in double-digits with 13.  The freshmen, Spencer Boshears and Nate Walden, each scored eight while John Allen Arnold posted four and Landon Addington had three points.

The Orange-n-Blue  limited Gibbs to just four players getting into the scoring column.  Campbell had only eight turnovers on the day; a season best.

The Cougars play Saturday at 1:45 pm against Harriman at Anderson County High in a radio broadcast game only over the WLAF – B & M Tires Sports Network

Gibbs is 5 & 6.  Campbell is 1 and 16 and “so close” no more.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED 12/21/2018-3:30PM)
