A driver’s failure to maintain his lane caught the attention of Deputy Dakota Williams just before Christmas.

Williams was on Old Middlesboro Highway in La Follette when he noticed a black Chevrolet S10 allegedly cross the center lane twice. Williams continued to follow the vehicle onto Flat Hollow Road to see if this was an isolated event. The vehicle allegedly crossed the center line three additional times before Williams stopped the truck.

When Williams approached the vehicle, he noticed three people inside and noticed an odor similar to marijuana coming from the inside, the report said. Williams asked if there were any illegal substances and they said no. The driver of the vehicle, who was later identified as Tyler James Cantrell, was asked again if there was anything illegal in the vehicle and he allegedly pulled out a small plastic baggie from his pocket that contained a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana, that weighed approximately 105 grams, according to a report from the Campbell County Sheriff’s Department. Cantrell also had a cigarette pack containing two small ends of a marijuana cigar. Behind the seat of the vehicle was a black bag containing a marijuana grinder, a set of digital scales, a vape pen that was believed to be used for THC and a pack of cigars.

Cantrell, 20, 40 Sesame Street, Amherstdale, WV is charged with possession of schedule VI-controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Cantrell was released on a bond of $1,750. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 12/28/2018-6AM)
