The pressure is on for many couples tomorrow.

Thursday is Valentine’s day; a day where some expect romance while others treat it as another day.

The total holiday spending is forecast at a record $20.7 billion, a 6 percent increase over last year, according to the National Retail Federation’s annual holiday survey,

The same survey showed only 34 percent of U.S. consumers plan to celebrate with an evening out and will spend an estimated $3.5 billion.

For those planning to celebrate in style, many local businesses are running specials.

If flowers are on the list, then local florists Petals of Grace and Ideal Florist have a variety of options. Both businesses will have a plethora of flowers to choose from including the traditional dozen roses. Along with roses, the florists are offering candy bouquets and balloons.

For the men, Ideal Florist has small model cars, a Mustang and a Ford truck, that can be filled with candy. They also have small bags of candy that can be purchased for the smaller Valentines.

Doors open at 8 am Thursday and Ideal Florist will be there “until the last delivery is made.”

Classy Threads Catering is also running a special- a dozen chocolate dipped strawberries for $12.

But these are going fast, according to Vanessa Dupuy, company owner. She purchased 12 flats of strawberries in advance of Valentine’s Day. As of 2 pm Tuesday, she was trying to purchase more, because the orders were still coming.

“This is a wonderful problem to have,” Dupuy said.

While supplies last, the berries will be available in milk chocolate and white chocolate. To order call 423-562-6829.

And for those who are seeking something different for the holiday, the newly opened Ahh Spa is running a massage special. Couples massages can be booked for Feb. 14 and Feb. 15 at $100 per couple. To schedule an appointment call 423-441-2690. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 02/13/2019-6AM)
