The Jellico Blue Devils made the Pirates of Washburn walk the plank last night in their opener in the District 2-A Basketball Tournament at Lindsay Gym.

The game started out like it was going to be a nail biter as the Blue Devils held a slim 12 – 10 lead at the end of the 1st quarter and was only up 28 – 26 at the half.  In the third quarter, Jellico began to distance itself from Washburn outscoring the Pirates 18 to 11.  JHS ended up winning big by a final of 69 – 50.

Bobby Zecchinni (in top photo) led the campaign with 21 points. Jordan King added 13.  Gracin Gerber had 10.  Steven Baird chipped in nine while Jerney Ivey and Bryan Lefew tallied seven each.  Aaron Smith dropped in two.

Jellico is 9 & 17 and advances to play the Hancock Indians at Sneedville on Friday at 8:30 pm.  Hancock won both regular season meetings.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 02/13/2019-6AM)
