A rainy, wet and cold Saturday night didn’t stop a crowd close to 400 strong from taking part in another of the many successful events hosted by the Pine Mountain Longbeards.  It was the Longbeards 18th such event; all have taken place at the Ball Farm Event Center in east La Follette.  PHOTOS HERE.

With 60 volunteers, it’s no wonder this chapter is so successful.  PML President Billy Ball expressed his thanks and appreciation to the community for its support. “They give us a lot of overwhelming support,” he said. This chapter is the largest in Tennessee and the ninth largest in the country, according to the latest numbers. The rankings are based on an array of categories including, but not limited to, the number of events, members and money raised, according to Ball.

Each year the National Wildlife Turkey Federation and the Longbeards sponsor events such as Jakes Day, the Wounded Warriors Turkey Hunt, youth hunts and Turkey Hunters Care Food Box Distribution. A portion of tomorrow night’s proceeds will go to support those programs.

  1. The first 8 or 9 were held at other various places before the Ball Event Center was built.
