While a La Follette man was being arrested for driving under the influence, his two passengers were being taken to the hospital.   A Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper investigated the pre-dawn, Monday morning one-car wreck on Highway 25W north of La Follette.  Not long after 7 am, the trooper placed 48-year old MacArthur Coffey under arrest.

The preliminary accident report outlines that Coffey was driving a 1999 Nissan Altama north on Highway 25W, near Lick Creek Road, when he lost control, traveled out of the roadway and crashed into a tree. Coffey’s two passengers, females from La Follette, were injured and transported to the Jellico Hospital for treatment.

Coffey, listed as homeless, remains housed in the county jail this morning facing multiple charges of due care, DUI, driving on revoked, possession of schedule II, IV, VI and Possession of drug paraphernalia and financial responsibility according to the THP report.
