The Campbell County Sheriff’s Department is offering an exciting opportunity for you. Beginning Thursday,  April 4, and every Thursday until May 30, Sheriff Robbie Goins is hosting the Sheriff’s Citizens’ Academy.

The nine-week class will give participants a look into how local law enforcement functions.

“We are excited to offer this to the public,” Goins said. “During the course we will walk everyone through the requirements to be a deputy and show them the inner workings of the department.”

Class topics will range from booking procedures to an evening on the firing range. A few of the 20 spots remain in this free-to-the-public class.

Anyone interested in taking part must complete an application prior to the first night.  Applications are also available at the WLAF Studios on North 5th Street.  Participants must be at least 18-years-old.

“What we want from this class is to make a direct connection with the people we serve,” the sheriff said. “We also want educate the community on how the department functions.”
