La Follette, TN. (WLAF)  – Gardening 101 was in session Tuesday at Valley View Elementary School with Valley View Elementary School Principal Jason Dotson and School Board Member Jeffrey Miller teaching the class.     Dotson and Miller let a select group of students get their hands dirty while learning some very valuable lessons in gardening.

Students planted corn and pumpkins in the small garden they plowed. Dotson and Miller laid the garden out, and then the 4th grade class came out and planted seven rows of corn which they hope will grow over the summer months. Each student was assigned a row to tend.

The students seemed to enjoy learning about growing things for yourself. The 5th grade class came out later and made some pumpkin hills and planted pumpkin seeds all the while Miller was quizzing them on what certain things were called, their uses, etc.
