LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Tomorrow , at noon, the Campbell Heartland Network (CHN) and the LaFollette Utilities Board (LUB) will host an energy democracy event at Postmark LaFollette.
“We will talk about how electric bills work, where electricity comes from and let people know they have a say,” said Brad Smiddy of the Campbell Heartland Network. Partnering with LUB, the CHN wants to use the listening tour to gather information so it can then go with another organization, Appalachian Voices, to TVA. The hope is to let TVA know what its customers are thinking and what they want.

Structured loosely, but with an agenda, Smiddy said the two hour session will be broken into segments, allowing for participants to “flow in and out” of the two hour session. Each segment will have time for feedback. “We want people to be collaborative,” Smiddy said noting that the channeling the feelings of TVA customers into change is another goal of the listening tour.

There will also be a discussion on how public power can better serve communities, as well as a segment discussing energy reform efforts and a viewing of clips from “The Electric Valley.”
