LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Two men from Canada are in the Campbell County Jail this morning after leading police on a short-lived ATV chase late Saturday night.  Officials tell WLAF that Mike King was arrested for public intoxication while the driver of the ATV, Greg Bermeersh, was charged with felony evading arrest, ATV on a roadway, reckless driving, failure to exercise due care, aggravated assault on a police officer and DUI.

The ATV was spotted by Park Ranger I Jordan Cross at 11 pm Sat. night on Highway 25W in front of the Cove Lake State Park office.  Cross said he followed the ATV and caught up with it at the Elkins Road traffic light and once he turned on his blue lights and siren, the ATV kept going and increased its speed to 50-55 miles per hour.

Cross detailed that Bermeersh turned right onto Sharp and Perkins Road and then onto on Main Street and through the Town of Jacksboro.  Cross said the ATV stayed straight past Hazel’s Hairstyles and Stuff on the old portion of the four lane, jumped a ditch, ran through the yard at Jacksboro Body Shop and back onto the four lane.  That’s where Cross lost sight of the ATV.  Other officers from the police departments of Caryville, Jacksboro and La Follette along with deputies from the Campbell County Sheriff’s Department joined in and located the ATV in the Wier Woods subdivision.

Officers arrested the men  at 11:08 pm Saturday night without incident. The pair was found on Cherry Lane.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 08/26/2019-6AM)
