Elk Valley woman found hoarding 29 dogs

PIONEER, TN (WLAF) – Twenty- nine dogs and a turtle were removed from an Elk Valley home yesterday afternoon as officials found the animals being housed in filth.  Read more HERE.

La Follette officials one-day drive to Nashville pays big dividends

NASHVILLE, TN (WLAF) – “This check is for Phase Three of La Follette’s downtown improvements project. It is for $366,000,” said La Follette City Administrator Jimmy Jeffries.     He along with the mayor and vice-mayor made a one-day down and back trip to the State Capitol to receive the City’s check on Monday.  Read more HERE.

CCHS lockdown lifted after nearly two hours

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – The Campbell County High School went on lockdown for nearly two hours this morning.  K-9 Units from the Loudon County Sheriff’s Office and the Clinton Police Department assisted the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office in a K-9 sweep of the school.  Next week’s scheduled routine K-9 sweep of CCHS had to be moved up due to a training schedule conflict with the Campbell County Sheriff’s and was conducted today beginning at 9:30 am and finishing up around 10:45 am.  Read more HERE.

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – An unintended nationwide food drive (above) for Jacksboro Elementary School continues gaining strength this morning.  JES alum and now veteran first grade school teacher Brooke Goins said, “My Facebook post a couple of weeks ago was just to say thank you to “my girls,” her fellow first grade teachers, for helping her pool together a few dollars to send food home with a hungry child.  I never meant for it to become this.”  Read more HERE.

Clay shoot raises $48,000 for children’s centers

MARYVILLE, TN (WLAF) – On Sept. 27, the 8th Judicial District Attorney General’s Office hosted the Fourth Annual  Clays for Children Sporting Clays Tournament at Chilhowee Sportsman’s Club in Maryville in an effort to raise money to support the children’s centers of the 8th Judicial District, comprised of Campbell, Claiborne, Fentress, Scott, and Union counties. The event grew from 66 teams last year to 82 teams this year and featured 328 shooters.  Read more HERE.

Annual pig roast was ‘small town magic’

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – It’s hard to believe, but it’s  been 34-years since the first pig roast was hosted by the Campbell County Chamber of Commerce.  Tuesday night at the old La Follette Post Office, now known as Postmark La Follette, the 35th pig roast hosted a crowd that featured a few of those who attended the inaugural roast back in 1985.  Read more HERE.

Furry critter gets zapped while zapping power

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – A squirrel on a kamikaze mission took out the power on the east end of La Follette Sunday afternoon.  And he went out with a bang on the pole in the top photo.  It’s the time of year when on a Sunday afternoon people enjoy a football game with family and friends.  Suddenly, a loud boom was heard down the street, and the game is gone along with all other electrical power in the area.  Read more HERE.

Central Avenue Bridge may end up being razed and completely replaced

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – “It’s a 100-year old bridge (Central Avenue Bridge), and it’s not in good shape.  The concrete is pretty much bad,” said Josh Metz.  Metz is a District 19 Engineer for the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT), and just took over the Central Avenue Bridge project.  Read more HERE.
