The reopening of the Central Avenue Bridge will be soon if the weather cooperates.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – The refurbishment project on the 99-year- old Central Avenue Bridge continues marching toward completion.  The end of May was the original target date for the big undertaking to wrap up.

Charlie Bowling with SCI (Southern Constructors Incorporated) heads up the project and said this week, “It all depends on the weather.”  Bowling and his crew have made significant progress on the north side of the bridge since mid-March.

The above Charlie Hutson photo was taken on April 5 and the photo below was taken on May 6.

Bowling and his men started pouring concrete for the front face on the Central Avenue Bridge on Monday.  He said the concrete forms couldn’t be removed until Wednesday.  Early yesterday morning, the crew started removing the forms and getting ready to grind down the high spots. The next step will be to start back filling the front face and then more concrete work.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 05/07/2020-6AM-PHOTOS COURTESY OF WLAF’S CHARLIE HUTSON)
