JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – Dennis Powers officially announced his candidacy for State Representative in the Republican Primary for the 36th House District in Tennessee on Friday.  The 36th District is comprised of all of Campbell and parts of Anderson and Union Counties.

Powers, an insurance agent since 1989, now with Nationwide, was born in LaFollette, a 1971 graduate of LaFollette High School and graduated from the University of Tennessee with a B.S. in Business Administration.

He describes his political philosophy as “Ronald Reagan Conservatism.”  “I’m running again because I’m concerned about the direction of our country,” Powers said in a recent interview. “We have to elect people who share our values and are accountable to the voters.”

Powers’ wife is Tracy Adkins Powers, Campbell County Site Director for Roane State Community College.  “She is my inspiration,” Powers said.  “She courageously overcame adversity and continues to be a leader in our community.”

Powers said he will continue the fight against the drug problem in our area.  He also said he is pro-life, pro-second amendment and will always protect and defend the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Tennessee.
