JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – The county recreation committee met in person on Monday evening at the courthouse and voted to reopen the soccer field, tennis courts and basketball courts at Lonas Young Park.  Recreation committee chair Robert Higginbotham brought the issue up later at the county commission meeting, asking commissioners to vote on the openings. commissioners approved the request. The beach remains open as well. The playground and remainder of the park will remain closed due to the COVID-19 virus.

The replacement of a dying tree at Lonas Young Park was also approved at Monday evening’s recreation committee meeting. The county will be receiving the tree at no cost. “The tree is a memorial tree for Jimmy Arnold and is being replaced by a more water friendly tree,” Higginbotham said.

Higginbotham pointed out, “Mr. Arnold dedicated a lot of volunteer work for the county with a lot of that work done at Lonas Young Park.”  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 07/21/2020-6AM)
