LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – The initial estimate of the number of trees down was way too low according to Campbell County Road Superintendent Ron Dilbeck.

Around 5:30 pm Friday afternoon, Dilbeck told WLAF News that more than 25 trees had been taken down by the severe thunderstorm that moved through Campbell County in the 5 pm hour.  About four hours later, Dilbeck updated his estimate saying that more than 100 trees are down.

LUB General Manager Kenny Baird said, “It may be Saturday before every LUB customer is back online.”  At the height of the storm, more than 3,700 customers were without electricity.  As of 9 pm Friday night, there were still around 2,500 power outages.

Stong to borderline severe storms are in Saturday’s weather forecast.  Don’t be caught off guard, because a repeat of Friday’s storms cannot be ruled out. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 07/31/2020 – 9PM-PHOTO COURTESY OF WLAF’S CHARLOTTE UNDERWOOD)
