LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – A be on the lookout (BOLO) for a red Kia Sportage that had been reported stolen ended in an arrest.  Campbell County Sheriff’s Sgt. Nathaniel Bostic spotted the vehicle on Jacksboro Pike.    The sergeant conducted a traffic stop on Aug. 31 in front of Pizza Hut and found a man identified as Bobby Lee Barnes exiting the driver’s seat as he approached the vehicle, the report said.  While performing a routine check of his driver’s license, Bostic discovered the 34-year- old Barnes license was suspended, and that he had multiple driving on suspended convictions, three according to jail records,  a report from the sheriff’s department said.

Bostic had his K-9 Santo conduct a sniff of the exterior of the red Sportage.   Santo allegedly alerted to the vehicle.  Jacksboro Police Detective Cody Chapman assisted Bostic, and the two officers found a set of scales and glass smoking pipe while searching the compact SUV.  The glass smoking pipe was found under the driver’s seat of the Kia.

Barnes, homeless, is classified as a convicted felon and was charged with driving while suspended (4th offense based on jail records), burglary, theft under $1,000, violation of probation from criminal court, a capias bench warrant and possession of drug paraphernalia.  According to jail records, Barnes remains housed in the Campbell County Jail this morning without bond, and the arrest was the 18th for the La Follette man.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 09/10/2020-6AM)
