SEYMOUR, TN (WLAF) – It was Game Four.  The Campbell Cougars opened on offense with another three and out (or turnover).  Like in the season opening win over Cocke County at Newport, that didn’t really matter Friday night on Householder Field.  WATCH the Campbell – Seymour game HERE on demand.Seymour drove downfield following Thomas Johnson’s first of two punts on the night in what looked destined to be a touchdown scoring drive.  Cougar defensive back Gavin Newman blew up that drive with a diving interception at the 19-yard line.  Campbell responded with a grinding 81-yard scoring drive that included key third down conversions on Makyle Shepard receptions and power running from C.J. Allen.  Allen capped the drive with a three-yard touchdown carry followed by a Thomas Johnson extra point giving Campbell County a 7-0 lead with under 10-seconds to go in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Seymour’s next possession of the game ended in a three and out.  Midway through the second stanza, Hunter White directed a 52-yard scoring driving that resulted in a touchdown on a fourth and goal play from the Eagles’ two yard line.  Coach Justin Price said Hunter threw low into the end zone only where the 6-2 200 pound Mason Shanks could scoop the ball off his shoe laces for the score.  The missed extra point left the score at 13 to nothing.

Seymour’s fourth possession of the game ended like the first; with an interception.  This time, Desmond Gilbert picked off an Eli Funck pass returning it to the Eagles 43.  White once again led the Orange-n-Blue to the West end zone with Cahron Williams hauling in a ten-yard touchdown pass.  Johnson did the honors and Campbell took a 20 to zero score into the locker room.

Veteran Eagle quarterback Tristan Cain took over on the last play of the first half and then played the entire second half starting with a 69-yard scoring drive to open the third quarter.  After a 33-yard run by Nic Childress, Cain finished the drive with a 34-yard scoring toss to D’Andre Sentell.  Seymour carved into the Cougar advantage despite the missed PAT and the scoreboard read Campbell 20  Seymour 6.

Hunter White committed his only error on the next Cougar possession.  He threw a pass into the hands of an Eagle defender at the Campbell 19.  Seymour continued to give its fans hope as it drove toward the East end zone only to miss a field goal and come away empty.  Coach Price called that defensive stand “huge.”

Campbell took over at its 20 and White engineered an 80-yard scoring drive this time finished off with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Allen.  Johnson’s extra point gave Campbell a 27-6 edge heading into the fourth quarter.

Seconds into the fourth, Seymour brought its crowd back to life with an eight-yard Cain to Michael Nevins touchdown toss.  Campbell was off sides on the PAT try, and Seymour then went for two unsuccessfully making the score 27-12 Campbell.

On Campbell’s next possession, it did two big things.  It ran a lot of clock, and it put the score well out of reach.  White promptly marched the Cougars downfield 78-yards, all the while chewing up more than six and a half minutes of clock, as Allen plunged into the East end zone from a couple of yards out.  With Johnson’s extra point, Campbell had it largest lead of the night at 34 to 12, and that tally served as the game’s final score.
