James J. Housley, age 94 of LaFollette went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 30, 2020. James was born on April 17th, 1926 to the late John Housley and Hazel Byrd. He was a loving husband and father, that enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved to sing Gospel music with his wife and other Gospel groups. James was a Deacon and a Sunday school teacher for many years. He was also a member of East Jacksboro Baptist Church. He worked hard to support his family repairing radiators and being an electrician. James never met a stranger.

In addition to his parents James is preceded in death by his loving wife Thelma “Dabney” Housley; brother Doyle Housley, and sisters Azalee Riggs and Pauline Hembree.

He is survived by daughter Connie and husband Rev. Kenny Gillum of Jacksboro; brother Charles and wife Mary Jo of Hazard, Kentucky; grandchildren Tonya and Todd Overbay of Jacksboro, Connetta Wyatt of Jacksboro; great-grandchildren Theron and Ashton Overbay, and Tyler Wyatt; great great-grandchildren Mak Wyatt; and host of relatives and friends.

The family requests that due to the concerns of COVID the chapel will be open from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, October 1st, 2020 for viewing and signing of the memorial book. The family will be holding a Private Service for the immediate family at a later date.

  1. James was a good Christian man and always smiling. We attended Fordtown Baptist Church together. Sorry, I missed his viewing. My condolences to Connie and the family.
