LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – A LaFollette man admitted to drinking two 12 oz beers, just after he had a wreck and before he went to jail.

On Sunday, Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputy Joseph Weaver went to Davis Chapel Road in LaFollette about a wreck.  When he arrived, he saw a silver Dodge truck in the ditch with front end damage. Weaver spoke with the driver of the truck, Phillip Williams, and allegedly could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from him.  He then noticed approximately 10 empty alcohol containers in the floorboard of the truck, the report said.

Williams was given a series of field sobriety tests on which he performed poorly, according to a report from the sheriff’s office.  Williams allegedly told Weaver he had approximately two 12 oz beers as he left his son’s house just before crashing the truck.

Williams, 67, 876 Coolidge Road, LaFollette was charged with drivers to exercise due care, violation registration law, violation of TN financial law and driving under the influence(DUI).  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 10/09/2020-6AM)
