Ray M. Maiden, aged 87, of Jellico, Tennessee passed away Sunday morning, October 11, 2020 at Park West Medical Center in Knoxville, TN surrounded by his family.
He was born on September 25, 1933 to the late William Henry Maiden, Sr. and Geneva (Jaynes) Maiden in the upstairs of their family grocery store in Eagan, TN.  He was the grandson of the late James Maiden and Martha
(Lambdin) Maiden and John Jaynes and Rachel (Dean) Jaynes.
Ray was a graduate of Jellico High School – Class of 1953.  He was a veteran of the United States Army.  After his military service, he followed in his father’s footsteps in the grocery business.  He eventually built, owned and operated Ray’s Superior Market on the Kentucky Side of Jellico.  People traveled from throughout the region to shop at “Ray’s” as it was widely known.  Also, he enjoyed working on the Maiden Farm for many years.  Ray
was well known and respected by the young and old alike.
Additionally, Ray was a 50-year member of Jellico Masonic Lodge # 527, F. & A. M.  He was an honoree of the Jellico High School Alumni Association.  He was also a member of Newcomb Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents and grandparents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Fisher Wayne Barton; sister, Patsy (Maiden) Teague; brother, William H. “June Bug” Maiden, Jr.; brother-in-law, Craig Teague; and
sister-in-law, Georgia (Grady) Maiden.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Maiden, of Jellico, TN; children, Kimberly (Maiden) Bryant, and husband, Tony, of Andersonville, TN and Deana Rae (Maiden) Barton, and husband, Wayne, of Jellico, TN; Paul Croley, of
Lexington, KY and Andy Croley, and wife, Tracy, of Williamsburg, KY; grandchildren, Michael Ray Culver, of Lexington, KY, Jeni Ann (Culver) Keene, and husband, Josh, of  Purcellville, Virginia, Ashli Culver, of Williamsburg, KY, Raeanne Barton and Grace Barton, both of Jellico, TN; and Alicyn Croley and Jerrod Croley, both of Williamsburg, KY; brother, Robert Maiden, and wife, Sue, of Jellico, TN; and special son, Dr. Michael Culver,
of Williamsburg, KY.
He is also survived by two nieces, Carolyn (Maiden) Gillam, and husband, Pete, of South Vienna, Ohio and Terri Maiden, of Williamsburg, KY; nephew, Andy Bill Maiden, of Jellico, TN; five great-nieces and great-nephews, Jami
Ripley and Ryan Gillam, both of South Vienna, OH, Lindsay Brown, of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Blake Maiden and Bailee Maiden, both of Jellico, TN; special care giver, Rhonda Wilson; several great-great nieces and great-great nephews; numerous other relatives and a host of friends to mourn his passing.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday evening, October 14, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Cox & Son Funeral Home Chapel.
The funeral will follow on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at 10:00 at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel in Williamsburg, KY with the Rev. Lee Ray and Rev. E. Wayne Barton, II officiating.
Interment will immediately follow at the Maiden Family Cemetery located on Maiden Bend Road in Whitley County, KY.
