JACKSBORO, TN. (WLAF)- In a quick meeting last night, the Campbell County Board of Education  conducted its monthly business.

Meeting via ZOOM, the board discussed county citizens being appointed to multiple boards to serve in advisory capacities.

While the discussion was initially tabled, it gained steam after board members had questions.

School board member Jeffrey Miller questioned the role of these people once appointed.  Steve Morgan, a fifth district board member, wanted to know who appointed them.

The role is an “advisory” one only, according to Johnny Byrge, board chairman. “They do not get a vote,” he said.

Answering Morgan’s question, Byrge said the nominations had been taken from board members.  Bryge said he had tried to contact Morgan for his input but didn’t get an answer.

Bryge told the group Tony Parker and Brent Johnson would be on the athletic committee; Eugene  Lawson would serve on the policy committee; Rector Miller and Johnson were appointed to the budget and finance committee; Miller garnered another seat on the building committee.

On the safety committee will be Sara Massengill, Campbell County Director of Schools Jennifer Fields and Jason Horne offered to take Ernie Mac Clawson’s spot on the committee. This was approved by the board.

The board was also apprised of progress on ongoing capital outlay projects.
