JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – There’s no shortage of challenge games for the Campbell County Cougars and Lady Cougars in the less-than-a-month-away basketball season. That’s a tough non-district schedule in addition to an always rugged District 3-AAA round robin slate. Print your schedule HERE.
Hardin Valley, Bearden, Fulton and Austin-East, some of the regulars that have a tradition of making deep post season runs, dot the non-district new season schedule.
First-year Cougar Coach Ernie Mac Clawson weighs-in on this year’s tough slate. “I think our schedule is one of the toughest in East Tennessee, and we will get tested from the word go. We will find out a lot about ourselves with Bearden coming in as our first home game (November 19). We know our district schedule is always tough, but we think our non-conference games are as good as anyone’s.”
Clawson has more than 100 career wins plus a district championship to his head coaching credit. Prior to taking the CCHS job, he coached Cumberland Gap for upwards of 10 seasons recording the most wins in a season and most consecutive wins. He also owns a win over Campbell County.
“Our first goal is always the district championship. We always want to challenge ourselves in a way that prepares us to make a run in February. We think we have a schedule that will get us prepared to do just that,” said seventh-year Lady Cougar Head Coach Brad Honeycutt.
Honeycutt recorded his 100th win as a head coach in January of 2019. It took four seasons and part of the fifth season to reach the milestone.
