LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – In the wee hours of Sunday morning, a missing headlight caught the attention of Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputy Joseph Weaver. The deputy was driving toward La Follette on Jacksboro Pike when he saw a silver car driving without a headlight.

When he stopped the car and approached, he could smell a strong odor of marijuana inside the car. The driver of the car, identified as Dalton James Gregg, allegedly stated he had smoked earlier that day, according to the report from the sheriff’s department.

A search of the car revealed a medium size bag under the driver’s seat containing approximately 2.4 grams of what is believed to be marijuana and a pipe used for smoking marijuana in the passenger compartment of the vehicle. Gregg allegedly said he did not have any marijuana in the vehicle. He stated that it belonged to the two juveniles in the back seat and that they handed it up to him to hide under his seat, according to the report. However, that excuse did not explain the marijuana found in the passenger side compartment. When Weaver spoke with the trio of passengers, they allegedly stated that Gregg had the marijuana prior to them getting in the vehicle. The two juveniles were released to their legal guardians.

Gregg, 18, 178 Dog Wood Lane, Jacksboro was charged with violation light law and possession of schedule VI-controlled substance. He was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 15 based on jail records. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 11/06/2020-6AM)
